The travel industry needs to make a bit of money in order to survive.
Unfortunately, I couldn't care less about the travel industry, I need to save as much to survive. :A0 -

You can just turn up and get a flight but its the most expensive way to do it - though have been guilty of doing it a couple of times. I'm not convinced it was ever a cheap way of doing it unless you mean buying from a package holiday on the phone or such whilst at the airport which then could be cheap.
I would.
It did used to be a cheap way of doing it - some airlines (BMI used to do it I believe) even had deals where you'd turn up and buy a ticket but wouldn't actually know where you're going until just before.0 -
You have to remember that there are alot of us OAPs that stay away in the summer from other peoples kids so as soon as they are back at school we go and fill the hotels up, they are not all sat there empty. The prices do ease but do not plummet0

Turning up at the airport no longer works so please don't do that!
For many, especially those who like Greece, Portugal, Croatia etc. September is THE best time of year to go away as less crowded but good weather and warm seas. Bargains will exist but often flights to Greece in particular have been snapped up.
Www.olympicholidays.co.uk is worth watching
I look at Olympic Holidays website a lot and have booked late August/early September holidays with them for the last 5 or 6 years.
In my experience, the prices tend to be low 5 or 6 weeks before departure then seem to go up again the closer it is.
May be just the holidays I've been looking at.
Personally, if I found somewhere I wanted to go and was happy with the price, I'd book it rather than hanging on hoping for it to go down or a for better offer to come up.
What's your budget?
Departure airport? Best deals tend to be from LGW.
Re Teletext holidays - there are some recent complaint threads about them on here.0 -
Yep. Do NOT use teletext now. They are getting money out of people for upgrades that don't exist, and much worse beside, if you are considering using them, read this thread first:

Look at my posts 75 and 76 ( quotes from reviews from teletext site)
To get a snapshot of what might happen if you use them.0
