Did anyone else see don't get done get Don yesterday about people with pass books for saving accounts That Santander had taken over, I was shocked about the trouble these people had trying to get their money if it was not for the TV show god knows what would have happened.

I haven't seen it but I located it. It's called "Don't Get Done Get Dom" and is a repeat from Apr 2013. On iPlayer here:

It sounds like a fairly well known issue with very old passbooks. If an account is closed the bank will only keep records of it for 6 years. So most of the time when an old forgotten passbook is found in the attic from long ago the truth is it was withdrawn or transferred and that action forgotten. The passbook does not have a closure entry in it but the chances are that's because it had been reported lost, or having being switched to a computerised version the passbook had become redundant.
Sometimes there may be a genuine fault at the bank caused by taking over another bank and losing information during the transfer, but my guess is that is not common. If it were it would have been noticed by all the customers who were active, regular users of their savings accounts at the time.0 -
I have watched it now and, assuming it was the right programme, he didn't help them at all. In every case he failed. The only success story was an anecdote from the IFA Sarah telling us about a single success she once had with a different undisclosed bank.Safetyfirst wrote: »if it was not for the TV show god knows what would have happened.0
