I've just started suffering from a problem when posting replies where I'm getting a warning that my posts are too short to be posted (regardless of how long they are), the forum then swallows my post and I have to type it all out again and this time when I try to post it it goes through fine.

Basically I have to do everything twice in order to get it posted, anyone else having this problem please?

Heh it even happened while I was posting this, this is the message I got :-

The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.

Edit: ok seems to be related to the editor box, I just kept getting the same message over and over again when trying to post this thread until I clicked on the change editor box.

Check to make sure your browser or security is blocking any scripts from here and google/yahoo. As far as I recall that happening can be one of the reasons.

i just wanted to add [so maybe MSE can do something about it after their sports day] that i am another sufferer :( and have been for well over a month now and am finally at the end of my tether

i havent changed any of my browser/security settings so dont see why that should be to blame

basically i just received this message
The following errors occurred with your submission:

The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.

after trying to creat this new post, where everything in blue was manually typed in

    E: 31/08 win 1,000,000 Nectar points or 20x 20,000 points [SL Effort]

    Nectar tweet announcing the promotion/competition

    Full Terms Linky

Complete one of the following actions (“Actions”, each an “Action”) during the Promotion Period:

List an item on https://www.eBay.co.uk in any category using the auction-style or fixed price format.
Complete a sale on https://www.eBay.co.uk. This is Action is completed when one of your items sells.
Invite a friend to register for the promotion by using the invite button for email or Facebook. This Action is completed once the invited user clicks the hyperlink served in the invite and completes the registration process on the promotion website.

Entrants are allowed to complete each of the three Actions mentioned above (list an item, sell an item, invite a friend) up to twenty times during the Promotion Period. No more than sixty entries per entrant.

Entrants can view the number of Actions completed and entries received in their personal overview on the promotion website. - not sure where this is atm

You will need to link your nectar account to your ebay account for the prize to be awarded so probably best to do it from the outset

as you can enter 20x times thats nearly once a day until the end of the month if you want to spread it out, so
i've added a link to the

when i get the error message i hit the back arrow and then press submit and it will go through then

also on replies to posts, like this, when i press submit, i wil get the error message and if i hit the back arrow everything is blank and it looks like its been wiped, however if i then click advanced reply it will show my previous typing, and i can then just press submit and it will work

After testing this yesterday I am able to replicate that behaviour and message by deliberately blocking the javascript that the forum loads from

    ajax.googleapis.com

I've seen that behaviour before which is why I mentioned it, and I know they (AJAX) are used for advanced posting features on this and other VB boards

Maybe your problem is weirdly unrelated, but just replicates those symptom? Things can sometimes break in similar ways for more than just one reason.

    Does however seem a coincidence.
i havent changed any of my browser/security settings so dont see why that should be to blame

Not always necessary to change something. Security software, adblock extensions, etc etc can have blocklist updates you don't see, or bugs introduced in automatic updates.

You should probably list here what browser, OS, security, ad blocking, you are using so the team know.

May also be worth trying in a fresh browser profile to see if it occurs on that.

well i switched from firefox to chrome and just managed to post this straight away and it was all copy and paste

thats soo annoying, as you say some auto blinking update has obv caused a conflict and all i can hope is that the next one fixes things again :(

strange tho because im on the same version of firefox since before the trouble occurred

    browser - firefox 28.0
OS - win 7 home premium 64 bit
    security - KIS 2013
ad blocking - ad block plus - with same settings on chrome and firefox

  • Thanks guys I use Firefox too so it sounds like something that may have been changed in our settings by a recent Firefox update.

And thanks for the tip regarding switching to the advanced reply mode to retrieve your deleted post fnc63, just tested it and it works for me too :T

If you make a post, click edit, type changes and then submit it with the alt+s keyboard shortcut you get the message too - this has been around for aaaaages and its really annoying, it has nothing to do with blocked JS either.
