Notary Public Fees

Hi guys,

I can't find the exact forum which I might be able to post this to so I thought this one was the closest match. Anyway, I need a few documents notarized by a notary public. They are photocopies of my graduation certificates and passports etc. Any ideas roughly how much it would cost to have these documents notairzed?

Thanks!

To get them certified as true copies by a solicitor or the like - maybe £5 a document

To get them 'notarised' multiply that by at least 10.

Who wants them 'notarised' and do they know what that means in the UK? most organisations would be happy with certified

I am applying for a dental entrance exam to Hong Kong and I had my colleague who is a fellow dentist to certify my documents but got a letter back today to say that it needs to me notarized by either a notary public or commissioners for oaths...

What is the difference between notarizing a document and certifying? I thought they both involves only signing the document to say I am who I am ? Shouldn't take more than 2 mins ?

Notarising also (in the UK) involves a detailed check that the original document is genuine, not just that the copy is a true copy

However, many solicitors are commissioners for oaths which would be fine and allow the cheap route

Any ideas roughly how much it costs for commissioners for oaths the documents? Are they the same thing as notarizing but a cheaper alternative ?

You need a 'commissioner of oaths' who is normally a solicitor. Charge is between a fiver and a tenner. You swear an oath in front of him, he stamps and signs the documents for you. Give any local one a ring and book an appointment, which takes about ten minutes.

As long as you are just wanting the documents certified as a true copy and/ or having a pre-written declaration notarized as made then you are talking in the £5-£10 range.

If you are needing them to actually create an appropriate declaration for you to make etc then you are talking their hourly rate which is generally about that of a low level solicitor
