Is there a system that gives you a historical check on old loans and credit cards as I cannot remember which companied I had loans or credit cards with?

No and credit searches only go back with account info for 6 years.
Then its up to you to keep documents for your own records.
You could always send £10 to each bank for a DSAR.0
