Transferring money into a French bank account.

Does anyone know how to transfer money into a French bank account? I have tried twice to pay using a payment link (it's to pay for an apartment we're staying in next week) and the payment keeps getting declined. The owner has sent his bank details, which looks more complicated than our simple sort code/account number! He is getting fed up and I'm not sure of what to do next. My bank for some reason will not authorise a straight forward debit card payment. I'd be grateful for any advice. Thanks.

And what bank are you with (some make it easier than others)?0

You should be able to do it from your bank account either in branch or on-line. If you're doing it on-line click on 'International payments'. You'll need the recipient's IBAN and SwiftCode/BIC. The IBAN is basically the receiving bank's sort code and account number preceded by a country code (not quite that simple, but you get the idea).
You also need to say what currency you are paying in - so if for example he needs you to send him €500.00, then you can say that, and the system will take whatever it needs out of your account to make €500.00.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
Great, thanks. I have found out that there is a way to do it through my Halifax account who charge £19.50, but can be done online. I can phone them to talk me through it, the details he has sent me involves lots of different sets of numbers so at least (hopefully) the bank will know what's what! The link was from his original booking page (we booked last November, but he only tried to take the payment last week and the card was declined due to unusual activity. We phoned him and my husband gave his debit card details over the phone but that also was declined (not due to lack of funds so not sure why) but he told us this happens a lot during the summer months, maybe the banks are being over cautious over the summer?? A quick phone call would have confirmed this but the bank just declined the payment so I wasn't sure what to do next. Thanks for the advice.0

Are you sure the apartment exists? There are many fakes on the Internet, so may be your problem is caused by their account having been closed?0
