In defence of L&C - no I don't work for them - there are good and bad levels of service/skill in every company I'm sure. Whilst it's not acceptable that you're provided with, to your mind, a bad service; to suggest that nobody should use them is maybe a bit much, as unlucky as you appear to have been.
They are a very big company and have many, many clients so they surely must be good at what they do generally, to get people going back to them.
It's also worth bearing in mind that they are a free service, and to a degree, you do get what you pay for. Our company charges a fee, but we specialise in a very niche area of the market and as such it requires an awful lot more work than a 'standard' mortgage (as does Kingstreet with newbuild property, for example) does to get through.
I'm sure a call to one of the managers and a frank chat about what service you've received so far will straighten a few things out - I'm sure they don't intend to provide you with any less than a top class service, so someone will surely be able to step in and assist.
Good luck with it.I am a mortgage adviser. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Your advice to call a manager seems to have missed my point - I have tried on a number of occasions!0 -
I had a pretty poor service from L&C (I was also trying to go with Santander) - nice in the beginning to get the business, but then after 10 weeks I was still no further forward, so ended up cancelling my application with them and going with another lender, who approved my application & conducted a homebuyers within 5 days (including a weekend!)
I have now completed in 8 weeks!
It seemed my case manager didn't really have a clue what was going on, and the story kept changing...
The case tracking system is good in principal, but it doesn't appear that it was used in my case - so not helpful at all!0 -
I can agree - I had extremely bad service from London and country.
Called up for help as a FTB (and to be honest didn't fancy forking out £400 for a broker). Spoke to someone (wish I could name as EXTREMELY rude).
Long and short, applying for a mortgage on my own, have a default on my account from 2009, in his words ''no lender will touch you with a ten foot barge pole''. Cried for two days as we had had an offer accepted on our lovely house for 20% under asking value until I got my bum in gear and obtained a ''what will be will be attitude'' and applied direct with nationwide....8 days later I had a formal mortgage offer, no questions asked!!
This is not mentioning them failing to call me back on 5-6 different occasions, having the worst telephone manner I have ever encountered (eating/chewing on the phone)....would never ever use them again!!!0 -

Well apart from the obvious 1 bank statement and 1 pay slip! Those were sent in and the next I heard was that my mortgage offer was in the post!0 -
It's quite possible the default is not visible on Experian, in which case Nationwide wouldn't see it, or it was old enough to not cause a decline.
If it passed the credit score, as it did, the normal requirement is latest payslip and latest month's bank statement.
One of the reasons for asking borrowers to obtain all three versions of their credit file is to see if there's any advantage to be gained by approaching a lender which only takes data from the one CRA where something doesn't show up.

It was visible hence why London and country declined to apply for me. I tried to explain that with the age of it I didn't think it may cause a problem and the fact that it was settled and for a medial amount.
unfortunately and in my opinion I may add I feel the person I spoke to did not want to deal with me and did not want my business.
I want to add that this is MY opinion, I wouldnt use them again personally but I had a bad experience. I am well aware that a lot of people have had good ones hence why I originally went to use them.
Its a shame really as I had high hopes for the company after reading such good reviews.0
