Hi, I hope someone can shed some light on this visa issue for me.
My wife an I are going to south east asia for 14 weeks on holiday in December.
Basically we are flying from Birmingham to Bangkok, staying there for 4 nights then moving on through Cambodia,Vietnam, Hong Kong, Indonesia and returning to Bangkok for our return flight home about 85 days later.
As we are only in Bangkok for 5 days and leaving within the 90 day maximum stay we do not need visas...is this correct? I have been on the Thai embassy web site about visas but the more I look at the wording the more confused I get.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated...cheers.

With a standard UK passport you can pop in and out of Bangkok on a frequent basis without any problem and each entry is treated as a new visit, with no connection to the previous one.
No pre-arranged visa is required.
Just begins to fill up your passport with entry and exit stamps

No visa needed. I've often popped in and out of Bangkok on trips around SE Asia. It's such a major hub for the region that this kind of thing happens all of the time. Just make sure you have confirmation of an onward flight just in case they ask.0

Thanks for the answers...my mind is at rest now.0

Erm....
If you don't have an itinerary containing confirmed bookings(preferably a flight) out of Thailand within thirty days, the airline will not let you on to the flight.
You'll need a Tourist Visa or a confirmed transport booking out of Thailand within thirty days together with a detailed itinerary. How about Visas for your other destinations?
There is no such thing as a ninety day maximum for Thailand.
It's usually thirty days if you don't have a visa with the caveat that your airline will not let you on to your flight to Thailand if you don't have that confirmed booking out.0 -
Well, the OP could already have what you describe, it sounds like coming back will be OK, so it's really a question of whether they intend to fly to Cambodia or go overland - obviously if it's the latter then a visa will be required as I doubt whether an advance booking on a bus would cut it.0

Let's hope the OP comes back to the thread or at least gets the correct advice before they leave.0

From the Royal Thai embassy UK website and as I understand it,
Foreigners who enter Thailand under the Tourist Visa Exemption category and would like to leave and re-enter may only stay for a cumulative duration, which does not exceed 90 days and is within a 6-month period from the date of first entry. (Passport or travel document must be valid for at least 6 months after the date of first entry).

Although these people who are not anything to do with the Thai embassy so wouldn't trust say otherwise.

This does not appear to be what the OP is describing, as from their description, they will only be in Thailand for nine days.
So they appear to be describing the duration of their whole trip.
Nevertheless, without the evidence described in my post, they likely won't be boarding the flight at all. Because as soon as the airline sees that the trip is over thirty days, they'll be looking at visas and/or confirmed itineraries.
That is separate from the cumulative stay(in Thailand) of ninety days over six months on Visa Exempt stamps.
I am confused about about one statement though...it's where they write about a fourteen week trip, but then suggest that they are returning home eighty five days later. That is thirteen weeks at best.0 -
Sorry for the delay in getting back to this thread, been rather busy sorting things out.
We have now booked our flights from Birmingham to Bangkok via Dubai and also booked our flight 5 days later from Bangkok to Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam for evidence of onward travel out of the country, so no visa is required. We then will travel through Vietnam ( visas applied for) then sort of make it up as we go then returning to Bangkok for a few nights before finally flying to Dubai where we are stopping for a few nights then home to Birmingham.
The 14 week was only an guess, not fixed and could change depending on how we feel.
Thanks for the replies though.0
