1930s internal door bathroom lock advice

Hi,

I am going to be purchasing some 1930s 4 panel doors (http://www.doordeals.co.uk/products/internal-doors/solid-internal-doors/clear-pine-1930-s-4-panel.aspx) with brass, oval handles. My only concern is a lock for the bathroom. What lock type would have been used in a typical 1930s home?

Thanks,
C

1930's slap bang in the middle of the Art Deco period. Style of door furniture would vary according to the standard of property. The emerging middle class may have had something like this or maybe just a simple bolt. Google Art Deco door furniture for lots of examples.

I grew up in a 1930s house. The doorhandles were bakerlite and the bathroom had a lock and key. Found this (scroll down - bit more industrial than I remember - the cross head screws definitely look wrong):

Not sure I would opt for a similar solution given the desire to access a bathroom from the outside should there be an emergency on the other side of a locked door...
  • Thanks for the links! Very helpful.
  • The old 'vacant/engaged' locks were quite common as well, remember older relatives having those, usually in brass.

Quite a few come up on a search.
