Planning trip to New York in 2015

Hello. I may be getting ahead of myself but I am taking myself and my daughter to New York next year, preferably July or August.
My question is is there any specific dates that I should look to include or avoid due certain events being on or does it not really matter.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Bean Counter
Is your daughter a 'city person' ? If not, you may not get the positive experience that you're looking for.0 -

To be honest I am not sure whether she is or isn't. We have just come back from London which she seemed to have enjoyed, although I would imagine New York being busier (although I may be wrong.)
She really just wants to see America and I have always fancied going to New York (I've been to the south west before) so seemed a good idea, although since I am still very much in the conceptual stage, I'm open to other ideas.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0 -

Flights are usually cheaper between October and April. Booking flight and hotel together via your preferred airline can save a large amount (but not always).0 -

if it helps at all, my 7 & 10 year old both really liked/enjoyed Boston & Washington DC, but didn't really like NY. They much preferred looking at it from the NJ side of the river, rather than being 'in it'.0 -

Parts of NYC are very busy, yes - esp specific attractions and certain districts but overall, its nowhere like as trying as London for a visitor - If you can avoid using the Metro during the peak morning and evening periods, you will go a long way to avoid much of the crush.
I actually really enjoyed walking through large parts of the city and much of it was not nearly as busy as I'd expected.

I have been in June a few times and in August last year, it was hot and sticky in August and busy, June was much more bearable. I took my 10 year daughter last year and I think she was bored with most of it, the only time she was happy was when we were in central park eating ice cream! I would recommend going in June, there is a thread on here about New York which is worth lookVirtual sealed pot 2019 member #6 :j

They are. May and October are much nicer months to visit.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Presumably you're considering July and August because your daughter is in school. Although I haven't been myself at that time of year I can imagine it could be pretty unbearable. I'd suggest that the October holiday might be a better time to go, and if your area's holiday dates are earlier than English half term the cost of flights might not be too bad.0

I went for two weeks in July a few years ago with my daughter. It was hot, but not unpleasant. Sun cream and a hat weather. Don't fall asleep on the beach at Coney Island for two hours at lunch time though. That was nearly bad.0
