Dodgy clutch...

As I am female, please excuse my poor description of what seems to be wrong with my car.
I have had my 2006 Peugeot 206 for a few months now, bought from a garage but not under warranty.
4 times over the past 2 weeks, as I have rolled to a stop in 1st gear, engine still running, but the clutch has gone really stiff - I am totally unable to move it. There has also been a bit of clicking from the clutch at times.
Like I say this has happened 4 times in 2 weeks. I have driven every day so it is not happening constantly. I will take it to a garage but just simply not had time yet. Every time, I have had to turn the engine off, put handbrake on and start again - then the clutch has been fine.
Any ideas what is the cause is? Or if you have any advice I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance!

get checked at garage asap.
I believe most 206s are cable operated, but I'd still suspect an issue with cable adjustment, inner cable corrosion or similar.0 -
Thanks for that atrixblue.-MFR-. very helpful! Will get it looked at definitely.
With regards to my earlier comment nickyhutch, it was a joke seeing as I didn't think 'clutch gone really stiff' was the correct terminology - a subject I know nothing about. I was just seeking advice from anyone who is able to help - male or female.
Thanks.0 -
I had a 206 for a while it had a really heavy clutch pedal i was told by a mechanic mate that it was the pressure plate (plate fingers a few of them has snapped) that attaches the clutch plate to the flywheel. What you can do yourself is go out to your car and open the bonnet and just look at the fluid levels to make sure they are all topped up
a full clutch kit including the clutch release bearing should cost around £100 - £150 and about £150 for the labour cost that is what i got it done for ( thats if it is the cluch itself a good brand to go for is a LUK clutch if you are keeping the car long term)
Hope this helps a little“People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. Think that car is cable clutch in which case cable/auto adjuster is prime suspect
Cost is £25 for the cable plus under an hour to fit.
If that doesn't cure it then it's gearbox off for further investigation but, as above, a complete new clutch shouldn't cost more than £300 inc fitting0 -
Is the car a petrol or a diesel?
The diesel version is notorious for wearing out the clutch really quickly (i.e. 20-30,000 miles) so much so that you only get something like a 6000mile warranty on a replacement clutch kit.
Petrol's more likely to be the cable but either way best getting it checked out at a garage.0 -
And if you bought it from a garage 'a couple of months ago' take it back to them.0

It's an 8yr old pug. Be realistic0

Doesn't matter what marque it is. It's an older car with a wear-and-tear clutch issue. SOGA/warranty? Not a hope in hell.
If it is the cable, then it may have been exacerbated by clutch wear - so even if a new cable does sort it, it may not last long, and you may still be looking at a new clutch. Not a huge job.0
