  • You don't say whether it's for a man or woman. There is a thread here for large size women's clothes.

One word though Arctic clothes and cheap don't go together.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

Budget price often means budget performance. Depending on how much you like the cold you may find your ruin the experience by being too cold.

As well as having really good outer layer the key to dealing with the cold is layering. Have friends from northern Finland and whilst the do wear t-shirts in our winters they do rate the Uniqlo HeatTech range for the inner layers when they cant get their normal nordic brands

Wikipedia says that the record low temperature in March for Tromso is -17C, with the average low of -5 and the mean of -2.7. Chilly but I don't think you'd need to go overboard with heavy duty arctic gear.

Hi, I was in Tromso in March last year. As InsideInsurance said...layering is the key! Here's what I wore and I was never cold......and that included standing/lying down on a frozen lake in the middle of the night gazing at the aurora borealis for hours!

    Thermal longjohns & long sleeved vest (M & S)
Fleece lined trousers (Cragghoppers from TkMaxx)
    Wool polo neck jumper (anywhere)
    Fleece jacket (Sprayway from TkMaxx)
Pure down jacket with 'fur' lined hood (Landsend)
Goretex-lined boots (TkMaxx)..clip-on ice grippers are v useful
    2 prs socks
    Fleece scarf, gloves and mittens.
'Fur' lined hat with ear flaps (Landsend)

The only thing I bought specifically for the arctic was the down jacket and the ice grippers, everything else I already had, (keen walker!) Have a squiz in TkMaxx...its amazing what you find in there in all sizes. Hope you have a fabulous time!

As has been stated you can get cheap clothes but if they don't keep you warm and dry they are useless. What are you doing while you are there? Are you doing anything that could result in inferior clothing not being a life saver? I use a company called Peter Hutcheons Design. Www.phdesigns.co.uk their items are brilliant but not cheap.

I live in -25 to -40C for a couple of months every winter. Unless they've moved Easter to January you don't have to worry too much.

As several people have said, layers are the answer. Vest/tshirt, top, sweater, coat.

Make sure your feet are warm. Boots should be loose enough to allow two pairs of socks.

Keep the head covered and wear gloves.
