My sister had strange noises coming from her loft in the middle of the night. Pest man found a wasps nest and sorted that. Noises still there so back he came to discover she also has bats and rats!!! And yesterday she found a frog in her living room!

Sorry, for some reason I found that really funny.

I've got a big mouse problem too, trying to think what to do

If you use the bait method, don't the dead little beasts start to smell as they decay?

Rats apparently go outside to die (luckily for us!)
    I haven't got one!

Could be bats coming back to roost, in which your pest man needs to be very careful when laying those traps. If he catches a bat on a sticky trap you could both be in line for big fines.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.

I used to be plagued by starlings who nested between the roof tiles and the plastic lining inside the loft so they never actually got into the loft (and they made the noise you describe - although they tended to be mostly noisy in the early morning). The tell tale signs is the white poo marks they make on the tiles near their enterance point. Get the binoculars out again
