Tuesday 5th Aug - What small DFW things will you be doing today?

Options
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

    Morning campers!

Welcome to any newbies or lurkers - don't be shy! :)

Not a good day yesterday. It turns out that my delicious salad, with my delicious home grown patty pan squash does not agree with my stomach. Yup, along with raw banana, I'm allergic to raw courgette/squash! Came home from work at 5 on the dot to lay in bed wimpering and clutching my tummy :o

    Today must be better!

    • Check online banking and reconcile against spreadsheet - done
    • Overtime
    • Tidy house a bit, encourage OH to tidy his stuff.
    • B/L?/D from stores (might treat myself to L from personal spends) - L from personal spends
    • PUT BREAD ON TONIGHT (yeah who am I kidding?!)
    • Small shop for milk and onions - and coffee, spread and yogurt
    • Check Kenco rewards to see if the coffee is in stock again (how can a coffee manufacturer be out of stock of coffee??) - nope, must buy coffee then
    • Possibly make soup tonight using chard, depends what time I get in from work...
    • Go online and order OH's graduation stuff (not mse one bit...)
    Have a good one all!

    Good morning everyone

Spend far too much over my birthday week so I'm going to really make a start on money saving/making from today onwards. Debt currently stands at:

    Halifax 0% card: £747
    MBNA 6% card: £632.22

A lot to pay off. Argh.

    So, today:

Already bought Slimming World magazine this morning (before I checked my balance!) but no more spending today. Going to have a read through it and have a look at recipes.

    BLD from stores.

Pop to library to collect/return books

Evening in tonight watching things from Sky Planner

Have happy DFW days all xx

  • Hello all,

Have had a break from the laptop for the last couple of days. Really getting into the staycation mode and have been relaxing and reading and doing very little (though I did wash some curtains yesterday).

Our DFW things are more about what we haven't done so far this week. Last year I hit the credit card on our staycation with a "we work had and we deserve treats" attitude. We went shopping and ate out nearly every day!

We are having a good walk every day, eating nice homemade food (the moussaka with YS mince was a particular success), reading library books, sitting in the sunshine with our feet in the paddling pool and a cold beer in the evening. The sunshine does help and it may not last - if so I'll get a jigsaw puzzle out or some knitting or possibly the cross stitch kit I started several years ago....

Decided to keep running the washing machine and see how we go. I think I might have been overloading it as it doesn't always make the banging noise. OH has found the bearings for a much lower price if we decide to go ahead with that plan. And yes Ally - I could sell them on if they don't do the trick.

Still feeling a bit sad about son's unemployment. He has had a holding letter and a promise of a full reply by the end of this week. He needs to start looking for another job but being proactive is not one of his strengths.

    Best wishes all x

    Morning all :j

Thanks for starting the thread Carrie, and hope you feel better today.

I have been awol for a couple of days as we went away for the weekend - just to stay with DD1 and her family, so no spends apart from a stash of chocolate frogs and stickers for two small GDs :rotfl:

    So far today I have:

Been to the dentist - ouch - not the treatment (I only had a check up and a clean and polish), but the cost, which was £71.50. No NHS dentists available here unless you are on benefits unfortunately :( I have been with the practice for years though, and when they went private, they agreed to still treat the kids on the NHS. In fact he still does treat the youngest, who is the only one who still lives in this area, on the NHS, and she is 30 and a mum herself now :rotfl:

While I was out I got the kitchen rolls I needed for £1 from a market stall. Not bad, especially for a pack of 4 :)

I also went to the bookshop and used a book token that I have had for a while. It was a gift, so I got 2 nice new hardback books for the token (£30) plus another naughty £11 :o

Final spend for me today was some stuff to disinfect the chicken house and run before we get our new chickens :j. I am currently down to one, as we lost a couple of ancient ones during the hot weather. The remaining one, who is also pretty ancient, will go to live with DD2, who has lots of birds and lots more space than we have. Our chicken area is quite small, and it is hard to introduce new birds without a lot of fighting in a confined space. So, we will do a deep clean and buy 2 new pullets :D

OH has gone to fill his truck up with diesel and to the locksmiths to get a problem with the workshop lock / key sorted, so that will cost  So, all in all, not a very MS day for us. Must do better tomorrow!!

    Still to do:
A bit of hoovering as the dog hairs are taking over

Lunch and dinner from food we already have in. OH and I have decided to lose weight. A bit of a continuation for me, as I have lost nearly a stone since I finished work in April. I still have a couple to lose though :o OH has been in complete denial and has a lot more to lose. However, he has been shocked into doing something about it by some recent photographs, which have been a lot more effective than my suggestions / nagging :rotfl: So, we will have beans on toast for lunch and chicken and salad for dinner :)

Arrange to take old chicken over to DD's. I will be a bit sad to see her go (which is daft as I will still see her every week at least) so that we can get started on cleaning out the house and run ready for the new arrivals :)
