Scottish SQA Results

Options
Hi All

My daughter's exam results are due out tomorrow and I have no idea how to understand them :o I have 2 older boys and each time they have taken exams the set up has been different but at least the teachers and the SQA website have been helpful, but not so this time. Any help would be much appreciated :j

  • Doesn't your daughter know what she has been studying? I'm sure if you know what the qualifications are you can work it out...

Is your daughter waiting on her National 5 results? If so, has she sat only N5 (i.e. was she entered at N4 for any of her subjects and so didn't have a final exam)? National 5 is graded A-D and is the same as a Credit pass at Standard Grade. National 4 is like a General pass. More should be explained on the certificate and the usual TV/internet reports and stuff will spell things out given all the recent changes and because it is quite different, especially for parents with older children. ETA I've already found one: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-28650747

Schools have had information evenings for parents but I'm not sure if this has been done in every school with enough notice for parents to be able to attend. There will probably be members of staff in school (perhaps a depute head or head of faculty) who may be able to get back to you this week if you have questions.

It doesn't surprise me that the SQA stuff has not explained in an easy-to-understand way. It's been like that all year, with goalposts changing during the year in some subjects and information slow to be given out. A Verifier I know was given two completely different pieces of information about procedures in the space of a weekend and this days before requests for work for verification arrived in schools.

Good luck to your daughter for her results.
