Instore purchase charged twice on Barclaycard

Hi Guys

I'm after a bit of advice...

So the other day I went into Halfords for something and I purchased it on my Barclaycard. Normal procedure; insert card, enter pin, remove card, done right? Well no not exactly, as soon as I removed my card after completing the transaction the till that I was being served on crashed and shut down (windows terminal).

The manager checked the 'card transactions history' on the other till and said that it hadn't gone through. So she scanned my item again and then I completed my transaction with my barclaycard again.

After checking my Barclaycard account it turns out that I did in fact get charged both times, although this doesn't show on my account yet as it is still pending, it does show that the pending amount is for £218 which makes sense as the item was for £109.

So what is the best way to go about this, do I go back to Halfords first and explain (even though I only have one receipt not two) or do I contact my CC company and dispute one of the two transactions?

Sorry for the long winded thread, any help greatly appreciated.

Pending amounts are annoying but they do drop off soon. If it shows on the statement then take further action.

It's happened to me in the past (albeit with supermarkets), and to many others on here. Your question is not new. :)

Pending doesnt mean taken. If the system has crashed it normally will have lost the authorisation code for the first transaction and so it will just drop off naturally in a week

Wait to see what happens, if both go from pending to actual transactions then go in store in the first instance but the odds are is one will convert to a transaction and the other drop off
