However recovering the money goes if he visited a scam site make sure his antivirus protection is up to date and running.0

Yeah I've gone ahead and done that. I'm a techie so I've installed anti-virus software on all of our machines and made sure our firewalls are intact etc. I have got the scam emails before too but I know not to trust any link in a email, especially one asking for precious information, also Gmail has always sent them to the spam folder. This hasn't always been the case with Hotmail though0

They may only be asking him to go into the branch as you have to sign a form to say you didn't withdraw the cash yourself. that's what happened to me anyway.
Hope it goes well.0 -
Just a quick update. He went in they asked him a few mandatory questions etc and refunded him the money today
. Natwest handled it pretty quickly which we are all happy about. Apparently after they got his online banking details (via the fake Natwest email) and after transferring £500 to an account, they phoned up for emergency money and was able to get a code for the ATM to withdraw £300. All sorted now though, thanks guys

...He believes he may have been caught with a phishing scam after getting a dodgy email claiming to be Natwest. They asked for some of his information which he typed in but came and asked me if it was safe to do. I told him no so he shut the site down immediately. This was roughly 2-3 weeks ago.
I am surprised that with all your knowledge you had not told your step-father to change the online password immediately, not just shut down the website....I'm a techie so I've installed anti-virus software on all of our machines and made sure our firewalls are intact etc. I have got the scam emails before too but I know not to trust any link in a email, especially one asking for precious information,...
Glad you have the money refunded.0
