Mains powered smoke alarm

Hey

We have two mains powered smoke alarms installed. In order for them work together (sound on all alarms when one goes off) do I need to use the same brand?

You don't but it's good practice as you can be 100% sure both will work together without any issues.

The way I read it is that if one goes off the other does not ? and vice versa

If thats the case and you want them both to go off then both the alarms need a link wire running between them both, most alarms can be interlinked so you would need to take them both down and look at the connections on the back and see if there is a link terminal.

If you mean one of your existing alarms is faulty and needs replacing, it is well worth searching for the same model, as most alarms just slide onto a backplate, so anybody can replace them. We had this issue, but searched the Internet for our (now obsolete) model. We found it eventually and bought a spare as well.
