Hi,

Anyone had any experience with this?
Also, any idea if Amex have a limit on the number of different credit cards you can hold with them?

Many thanks,

VNS

Gold card is a charge card not a credit card

There is no formal limit on the number of cards you can have, I've had up to 4 at the same time.

You can reopen a Gold Card as soon as you want but you wont get introductory offers again until you've had the account closed for 6 months and if you are talking about MR points all your MR cards must have been closed for 6 months.

Of cause if you get someone to refer you after the 6 months is up then you get a slightly higher bonus 22,000 rather than 20,000 for Gold (the referrer also gets some bonus MR points)

    Thanks for the quick reply!

Any reference on the Amex site to the 6 months bit?
I tried to google for it, couldn't see it.

I know about the 22k after being referred, that was the idea to maximise. On that page it says 'new customers' but there is no definition to what that means...?
    1. someone who already has a card can't apply
    2. someone who has had one recently

    Thanks...

    The site states:
If you are approved for an account and spend £2,000 on purchases on the account within the first three months, 20,000 bonus Membership Rewards® points will be awarded shortly after the end of the three months. All introductory offers are subject to change, can be withdrawn at any time and are not available if you currently hold or have held any other Membership Rewards enrolled American Express Cards in the past 6 months.

If you look its Point 2 in the Important Information window.

So as said, cannot have held an MR card in the last 6 months

When does the "6 month" period start to tick, from the time you phone to cancel or from some time later, eg, final statement? When I phoned to cancel, the guy said that my account will be close after final statement. But I never received any final statement or a cancellation confirmation.

Maybe you had no balance, so they didn't send you one?

Have you logged in online to check it out?

Normally, as in banking in general rather than AmEx explicitly, its from the date of account closure rather than date of phone call. If the account is clear then closure is normally a few days but if theres outstanding balance then its could be over a month by the time statements produced, payment cleared and account closed etc
