New Boiler grants/ financial help

My husband & I are currently having a nightmare - help appreciated.

We moved into our home (we are home owners) 3 years ago, and discovered the property has a Baxi back-boiler, its the very old kind from when the property was built in the 60's, with a huge water tank in the loft.

Things have started to go wrong, the water tank is a real botch-job thanks to some cowboys who fettled it before we moved in.

Ultimately, the boiler is not efficient at all, costing a fortune in energy bills that we are struggling to keep up with, and we do not want to waste money repairing the system when it needs replacing.

My husband & I both work & do not receive any benefits, though our family overheads are massive due to child care costs for our children whilst we work. I haven't found any grants etc that can help us to afford the large cost of a new boiler system installation.

Can anyone please help with advise about what we could do or where we could go to try and get some financial help??

Many thanks

If you work and have children in education, you may well be entitled to working tax credit. This can be the case even if your joint income is £40k+, depending on your circumstances.

However, unless you live in a postcode area targeted for help, I believe that the conditions for eligibility for help with boilers etc. require a joint income of below c. £17k before kicking in. Even then, you may find it very difficult to find an installer prepared to do all the higher level of work in your case (compared with a simple install).

The best place to start would be by calling the Energy Saving Advice Service on 0300 123 1234 and they can take you through the eligibility checklist.

    Thank you for that advice.

We have filled in paperwork online for tax credits and we don't qualify unfortunately.

I will certainly ring that number and see if they can offer any help.

But you must have known it had an ancient back boiler when you purchased the property? And therefore budgeted for it's replacement within a few years?
if no national or local grants are available to you, your options are to finance it via a personal loan, interest free credit card, or the Green Deal.
