Evening all.
My DH pranged my car at the weekend (misjudged turning) and has dented the rear passenger quarter panel on my 3dr 207. Bless him. The trim thingy halfway down is also dented and the paintwork along that line is scuffed. The panel does not appear to be creased. No apparent damage to the passenger door.
Accepting that this is something of a how-long-is-a-piece-of-string question, what might we be looking at as a benchmark for repairs? I'm going to attempt to not go through insurance, but it all depends.
The reason for asking is when I go to the garage(s) I'd like to have at least an idea what it might be so as to be less gullible. It may also stop me fainting if I've already got a clue how much!
Thank you in advance for constructive help

Looking at the pic and how passionate you are about cars, that looks like it can be pulled out with one of those suction pullers (£1) , if the paint is scuffed that's different, but depends how like new you want the car looking.0 -
mitigate costs by supplying a new rear quarter trim (find one in a scrappy or on fleabay). concern here would be the door catch pillar. cosmetically it could be repaired for about £450-600 at decent body shop who will check out the pillar too for streightness and strength.Vikipollard wrote: »
although it depends if you want filler in the panel, or as little filler as possible, three ways in this it can be fixed.
1. Dent pull it, but the large creases will remain, and scuffs and be done with it. cost about £4.99 for a puller
2.cheap fix get a back street guy to pull the dent hammer out the creases and fill it with loads of filler paint it and be done with it and you get what you pay for. about £150-250
3.have a pro take care of it, who will spend time pulling out hammering out creases, grinding down high spots and using as little as filler as he can if the catch post pillar is OK, or his alternative is to buy a replacement panel remove that damaged panel, check the piller and straighten if needed, weld in new panel and used as little as filler as possible mainly round his but welding sites and paint it good and it would be hard tell it would have been repaired. £450-6000 -
£300.
Someone bumped into my car and did similar damage, put it in the garage who got a panel beater and it painted where needed and i think it was £300 plus Vat.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Sorry, hard to see from your pic, but check around the wheel arch and see if the quarter panel has mirrored the structure beneath and if there is any sharp points, in what looks, a gentle push in. If not too severe, get a a couple of local dent doctors to have a look, you may be lucky. Escalate that to a good, recommended panel beater if it is worse, but don't either contemplate a quick bodge (t's a big panel and will stick out like a sore thumb) or a new quarter (it is a cheap enough panel but heavy on labour to cut out and replace).0

Thanks everyone, really grateful for the help and comments. :)Apologies for the quality of the picture - doesn't help that she is cacked up to the eyeballs either after the return journey!

Worth bearing in mind that if you do claim your premium will increase even if not at fault.
Our car was hit last year when parked and no-one in it. 3rd party admitted liability and claim processed as not at fault on our policy. Cost of repair privately would have been £200.
Across 2 vehicles our premium has increased by £250 now so definitely wasn't worth the claim.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0
