    Cautiousness.
Makes sense. It's useful to know that transfers in cash (even from II) can go smoothly. Also, HMRC will potentially have some fun following the money trail.

My own cash transfer into II has been in play for less than a week, but already II has felt the need to secure message me to notify me they haven't yet had a response from Newcastle BS, saying they will write again but suggesting I should also give them a prod. Given my cash ISA only matured last Thursday, I'm not too concerned just yet (and I'm still half expecting a request for my passbook before anything moves).

I think such suggestions from the receiving provider are entirely unhelpful. It is their job to pull the old ISA in as fast as possible. It is not our job to interfere in any way, and we do not have any details about the state of the transfer. So all we can do is
    1. waste our own time by calling the old provider to literally beg for their cooperation, then hope for the best and/or
    2. at worst, delay the transfer because the person we might speak to might be clueless and put further unnecessary, and possibly unintended, delays into the transfer process.

It is very high time that there is an industry code for the transfer of investment ISA transfers, just like they have a code for cash ISA transfers.

@iWeb fans: could I buy Canadian shares in an ISA there? If not, which would be the best provider for that, by which I mean a combo of decent charges and decent service? (I am used to a fine service from HL on SIPPs, so perhaps I've been spoiled.)
Free the dunston one next time too.
  • I also transferred to III due to increased exit & holding charges from HL.:( ....I had been happy with HL but couldn't accept the increased charges.

Sorry that you've had problems with III but I've found them OK to deal with and haven't had any problems.....so far :o

All the best with the investment trusts

Wow! That's good to hear. There don't seem to be many of you on here, but of course, I do understand that the tendency is for people with problems to vent more than those who are happy.

I was amazed the other day to realise that since joining them in April, I have sent them 70 secure messages of different things going wrong. Most off course go unanswered, I have sent them 8 messages about why they haven't paid my commission the last one being a complaint, before hopefully going to the FCA in two months. Since it's unlikely they will do anything to fix it.
