CPP - didnt know I had it!

I currently work abroad but received a batch of old mail from my home in the UK which is currently rented out to tenants. Within this huge pile of mail (mainly junk) was a few letters regarding CPP. I was sure it was junk so binned most of it but as I got down the pile and noticed more, I decided to do a quick google search and found it was genuine. I had no idea I had such a policy so decided to ring the number for advice. I needed to clear their security questions, one of which "which company is the policy with?" I have absolutely no idea which was why I was ringing them! As I couldnt clear security, I have been told to write to them with the answers of a few other questions, DOB, tele number etc.

I have done as they ask but as I do not live in the UK now, the letter will take several days to arrive and will take further time to be answered and all before I can fill in the application form and return it prior to the end of month deadline. I am also moving home on 26 August, just to complicate matters further.

I expect I will miss the deadline so wondering if I should "guess" at what I was sold and how I was mis-sold it. I have absolutely no idea who this policy is/was with and I dont have time to investigate it.

Any ideas anyone?????????

the letter should have outlined at least two scenarios where it could have been missold. Pick either or both.

It does indeed, card protection or identity protection.

I honestly have no recollection of ever agreeing to this. The letter also states a policy number and I have cross referenced this with everything I have paperwork for and cant find a thing.

It doesn't matter if you don't remember, they've written to you. When you write back after they send you a complaint form, fill it in, send it off.

As I said, pick either or both of the scenarios when you fill in the form they send.

I already have a claim form, sent with the last letter, so im gonna just fill it in as I think I will miss the deadline anyway.

Doubt I will get anything, dont think ive ever managed to prove ive been mis sold anything! But its free and must be worth a shot.

    Thanks for the advice x
  • I was paying CPP Card Protection from 1990-2012! I claimed direct from CPP when MMST first broadcast the ruling and advice 2013 (Thanks!). Received less than £200.00 in March 2013 for period 2005 - 2012. Question: I've been sent the forms again by CPP does this mean I would be entitled to receive 'more' under the new post vote agreed scheme. Started CPP thru Barclaycard way back in 1990 but changed Credit cards quite a few times over the years keeping the CPP 'Protection' running. Should I fill the form in and apply again?

Since you'll only ever receive a refund of money you have paid, why would you receive "more"?
The only reason to return the form is if you have continued to pay the insurance (Why?) after your payout up to 2012. Otherwise, sending the forms back would be fraudulent.
  • Thanks for the reply 'Mr Bumble'... I do not think a claim would be fraudulent as it was CPP, who settled previously, that are now 'inviting me' to claim again under my policy number. They have the records and I therefore assumed that my original compensation ' may not have been up to that offered by the newly agreed scheme'. i just sought clarification. It is clear that like many I've been a real mug paying for such 'essential cover' recommended by my Bank not for 7 years but 22 years. I understand my Bank only has to keep 6 years records and therefore not option for a claim for 'more'.. Oliver Twist

They invite you to claim if you haven't already, not to claim again.

You'll only ever receive a refund of money you actually paid, so sending a second (fraudulent) "complaint" will not result in "more", it will just result in a terse reminder that you received your refund already in 2013.
  • Thanks.. It was a serious enquiry but my attempt at injecting a spot of humour appears to have fallen on stoney ground with some.
