Of course you could have avoided this entirely by doing the customs clearance yourself - which would have avoided any handling fee completely and limited any payment to just the duty payable.

The procedure for doing this and forms involved have been explained/linked here so many times already in the correct fora.

Do PO give you a chance do DIY? From my experience they, unlike, say, DHL, just do this without asking you because they are happy to charge their exorbitant fee.

Is 'fora' a forum? Any link?

Yes - so long as you get the seller to mark the package with the correct form of words. HMRC sends you the form for processing on arrival, you pay any duty and it gets cleared and delivered without any more faff.

Yes, this link - its been done to death, just search.

If you purchased from www.sodapopminiatures.com then I don't know where you got that they ship from a central European warehouse because this is their international shipping policy:

    International Shipping & Delivery
International order are delivered by the US Postal service to your local postal carrier within 7 - 14 days. Your local postal carrier then makes final delivery. Local delivery times vary from location to location. Because USPS First Class Mail International does not offer tracking or delivery confirmation after your order leaves the United States, we will not guarantee delivery of your items in a timely manner nor will we offer refunds if your item is not delivered. If your local mail service is not reliable, please notify us and we will make alternate shipping arrangements.
Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are your responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to buying. International items must include accurate cost information and be marked as merchandise for customs. We can not legally mark your item as a gift.

I think "as long as" are very important words that you missed in your first post. Especially in context of this thread when the parcel is already in UK and was supposed to be sent from EU.

You still have to pay an agent to do the Customs Clearance. You can't do it yourself.

Steve thanks for the reply but its a little bit more complicated than just that . It's a bit academic at this moment because in the mean time the company unilaterally refunded the order and my other outstanding order.

I am not unreasonably assuming that now they have refunded my money I no longer Own the goods in question

It is my understanding the post office will attempt to return the goods after 18 days, In order for this not to drag on I will contact them tomorrow and inform the post office that no payment will be made.

Is there anything else I should do both from a legal and polite stand point as I have never these circumstances before?

    thanks
