New Boiler

I have a old back boilder in my proprerty and wish to upgrade it to a new combi style boilder.

I have looked around and can't seem to find any help for anyone like me who is on a better than average wage. Im not eligible for any type of grant.

I have got a quote for 6k which I just cant afford, I am a single house owner in a 3 bed house and just dont have that kind of cash.

I understand im not going to get it for free but wondered if there are any type of interest free loans or help I can get to help finance this type of work? I would prefer not to take out a commercial interest free loan as these are always overpriced.

If anyone has any ideas I would be gratefull.

No, because you are on a better than average wage.

Even a Green Deal loan will be a higher rate than a competitive loan.

I'm afraid you will just have to bite the bullet and borrow.

Get some more quotes from local independent GSR RGI's as £6K seems excessive if there is already a mains gas supply to the property.. Are you sure that a combi is suitable?
If those who were on a' better than average wage' qualified, then who would not qualify?
Your options are a personal loan, or possibly the Green Deal, if the property passes the inspection.
PS: how can an interest free loan be 'overpriced'?

You could look to see if you are in a postcode that qualifies for help under CSCO: http://www.greendealoptions.net/csco-postcode-checker

What sort of combi? £6k is very expensive.

I'm guessing the high cost includes the back-boiler removal.

These are non means tested cashback schemes available, the current one the home improvement fund is temporarily closed for new applications but will open up again in the near future.

Your best option is to speak to a green deal installer as they are the ones who hold the keys to all these grants cashback etc.

Some means tested others not and when these schemes open the money goes very quickly and you want to be there from the beginning so you don't miss out

  • Thanks everyone. I have mains gas. I think the fact that I got a British gas quote maybe be the reason aksdo they probably use good boilers. I may try some local builders instead as suggested.

Csco I think maybe only installation. I found interest free loans aren't ever interest free as they add on the capital to the overall cist bumping up the price!

I heard about paying for work such as this were you pay the same gas bill but pay of the price of the new boiler with the money you save but haven't been able to find this?

Yea that is green deal finance, the finance is the limited to the savings you make from having the boiler fitted. So in theory you out goings should not be more than they are now but you have a better boiler.

It is finance and does have interest, but is an option worth looking into.

Ah, that explains it. Typically BG will be quoting you 40% more for a boiler install than a local independent. I'm guessing c. £4K elsewhere. BG boilers are no different to anyone else's: good and bad.
'Builders' don't install gas boilers-you need a GSR RGI.
You are referring to the Green Deal: the cost of the loan is repayed over 10 years via your electricity blll (not your gas bill), it caries an interest rate of 7% and is a loan, not a grant.

Green Deal can save money over the long term - but some firms can't do all the green deal stuff, i.e. finance and install and survey. So firm 'a' says here's the survey, but can't fit, firm 'b' says we can fit but can't finance ... what a mess! This place know all the lowdown on greendeal so can do the legwork for you - stl heating and energy. Just saves you getting passed around between firm A + B ...

    - so can I assume you or the company you work for can save me all the hassle and sort this out for me ?
    - if you are a heating and plumbing engineer you must know how to save us all from the nightmare of getting passed around between firm A + B !
