Reporting someone for dangerous driving

So let's have a basic Highway Code question (and, yes, as a pedestrian and - perhaps - cyclist, you should be familiar with the HC, since it includes sections aimed at you). What's the default speed limit if there's no repeater signs and no street lights...?Yes. But after overtaking, he started speeding. Unfortunately, I was not able to see how fast he was going. Nor did I see (not that I pay that much attention unless it's that obvious) if there was any speed limit signs up.
No? It's 60mph.
But you don't know if he exceeded that. Nor do you know what speed the "slow" driver was doing. Nor is your guesstimate, as a clearly inexperienced non-driver, going to carry any legal weight whatsoever.
Anyway, even if he was doing 65 - even 80 or more - it still isn't "dangerous driving". It's exceeding the speed limit. A very much more minor offence.
Simplest solution - and the only one that'll actually achieve anything...? Don't ask him for a lift again.0 -
Thats the last lift you get from him..............:cool:0

If it wasn't for the fact that you have made 18,000 (!) posts I would have thought you were one of those summer holiday posters we get who starts a ridiculous thread in the hope of provoking some outrage in response. But as that doesn't seem to be the case all I can suggest is that give your friend a stern talking to and stay out of their car in the future.0

There is a a lot of vague points in this thread. Overtaking isnt usually a problem, it may however be. Speed might not be a problem, again it might. The only real problem is the phone use, when sitting next to him you could have made your feelings clear right there and then. I doubt this will go anywhere.0

Is this a joke?Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

You've never been in a car or seen a car, that has overtaken another car on a single carriageway road before? Seriously?
Police won't do anything, there's no point reporting it, the only thing you should have done is told the person driving to slow down and not to use their phone when you were in the car with them.0
