In a relationship for 5 years
Living together for 3 years
Engaged for 1 year
Mortgage is in Partner A’s name
Partner A and B have contributed 50/50 to all bills for 3 years
Engagement called off by Partner A
Does Partner B have any rights to the property after having contributed to 3 years worth of mortgage payments?

Scottish law is very different to English; I would suggest looking at the Scottish section of the Shelter web-site.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

Maybe. But the two main things to consider here are.....
A) Will there be much equity in the property from the last 3 years? Unless it's in one of a few certain areas, I doubt it.Unless A is willing to negotiate outside of court (and I'm guessing they're not), can Partner B afford the expensive legal fees to take A to court? If not, then it's pretty much a non starter.
3 years isn't very long in mortgage world, and A has had a roof over their head during this time. Also, even if they did go to court, they aren't guaranteed to be awarded anything.
If I were in their shoes I would just walk away with their dignity intact, rather than risk a long and expensive fight for the possibility of not a lot of cash.0 -

Can you clarify: by all bills do you include the mortage or just coucil tax, utilities, etc?
Edit: sorry don't know about Scottish law0
