Reclaiming PPI from Thomas Cook credit card
LC-JPM
BetweenOct 2008 and Feb 2012 I had a Thomas Cook credit card (operated now, I think,by Barclaycard). I paid off and closed the account in Feb 2012.
Justover a year ago I wrote to Thomas Cook regarding reclaiming my PPI payments andI received a letter from them stating that although I had taken out PPI whenthe account was opened, it was cancelled within the 30 day cooling-offperiod. At the time, I did not have anycopies of old statements so was unable to argue this – although I was sure thatI had been making PPI payments.
Sincethis time I have obtained copies of 3 old statements – one from just after theaccount was opened, one from just before it was closed, and one from the middleof the account period. I have againwritten to Thomas Cook enclosing copies of the statements, and subsequentlychased them, but they have ignored both letters.
Isthere anything else I can do myself, or should I just hand this over to one ofthe reclaim companies (loathe to do so because of their huge charges)?
Thanksfor your help!

What is your reason for reclaiming the payments?0

It was on the basis of my employer already providing me with an illness package, so they would pay my salary for 3 months (and subsequently for 6 months at half pay) should I be unable to work. TC didn't ask about this.0

You don't actually say if the statements show that you paid PPI.0

Sorry
Yes, they certainly did show this - all three statements had a "payment protect" amount added to the account. I highlighted each of these for their ease of reference. Before providing copies of the statements TC responded to me very quickly, but I've had nothing, not even a holding response. 0 -
The lender has eight weeks to respond to your complaint. If no response is received you can approach the Ombudsman, but do be certain that they have actually received the complaint first.
Under no circumstances should you "hand this over to one of the reclaim companies" as you've already done all the hard work and they can do nothing that you cannot (and have not already) done by yourself.
Good luck..0 -
That's all very useful, thank you very much indeed
