Please could anyone advise me if its possible to apply for a credit card if your not on the electoral role. My landlord has not put me on the electoral role and I am going to speak to him re this but wondered if I would still be able to apply:rotfl:

You can certainly apply - whether successfully or not is another matter
And you should be able to put yourself on the electoral roll0 -

Your landlord cannot put you on it, you must sign the form yourself.
Its possible to both apply and get one as I know a number of non-UK/EU people who legally cannot be on the electrol role and have UK issued credit cards. My wife (also non-EU) had one when I met her.
Your more likely to have to produce your KYC documents and your chances of getting a card is probably reduced but it isnt a show stopper.
Did you deregister from your last address or will you still be listed as being there? When did you move?0 -
To register on the electoral roll is now done individually so you need to do this youself, not your landlord. information here https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
Being on the e/r is one of many things that a potential lender will consider when you make a card application.
It can be possible to get a card without being on it, particularly if you already have other credit accounts at that address, but it is usually easier if you are on it. It usually take a month or 2 for your credit file to be updated to show you are on the e/r.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
good advice.
just out of interest, anyone any idea whether it would be important to be on the ER if you were to apply for a card account from a provider you already have an account with, having moved to a new address?0 -

Ignoring your specific question, why would you not register when it could cost you £80?

What happens if you don’t register
If you meet the conditions for registering to vote (eg you’re 16 or over and you’re British or a national of an EU or Commonwealth country) and you’re asked to register, you have to do so.
If you’re asked to register and don’t do so, your local Electoral Registration Office could fine you £80.
You won’t be fined if you have a valid reason for not registering, eg a long stay in hospital, or you have severe learning difficulties.0 -
In answer to your original question, yes, you can get a credit card when not on ER - MBNA and Capital One both did with me - and with good limits too.Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.0

I've gotten 4 credit cards and 5 store accounts without being on the electoral roll. (I thought I'd sorted it when I moved but apparently not and only got put on about 3 or 4 months ago.)
I did have a perfect credit history though. The truth is out there... and I want to believe0 -
I got a Nationwide credit card soon after moving and my electoral roll data still being at my old address. My credit rating is fair/good.I have enough money to last me the rest of my life,as long as I die next Tuesday.0
