What would be the best way to tfr photos

I have an iBook G4 and I am thinking of transferring photo"s from albums to disc. mainly to free bookshelf and cupboard space.

What scanner would be suitable and how would I do it.(I am not technically minded.)

Also is this a good idea, what would anybody do with the photo's after, would they throw them away, once onto a disc.

any scanner would do, even the cheapest thing on the market. Not sure about throwing your originals away though...wouldnt anyone in your family take them off your hands?

I wouldn't throw them away, no form of backup is 100% reliable. You used to be able to get negative scanners (expensive mind), but if you've lots to do it'd speed the process up.
