Ha i am here to help, im a gadget guy ive heard and i know JL are pretty good with returns i would take it back to them and get a replacement. Its really odd for a high end TV in a brand new range to have dark spots, try to keep it upright when loading in the car.
I wouldnt be happy after spending that, take it back panasonics are very very good tvs. Get a replacement.Kind Regards,

Thanks for all the info folks. Perhaps i just need to get used to it. Let's see over the next few days.
I tried changing the backlight level but it didn't make any difference. In fact moving from level 70 to 100 didn't change much, I thought.
Technology eh? Too steps forward and three backward.
Now to figure out how to access the 40D and ITV stuff that's supposed to be available on this set, to let you watch catch up programmes. All I can see is BBC iPlayer.
Anyone else got one of these Panasonics, that are supposed to give you acces to previously broadcast programs on all of the main channels?
Assuming you've already got it connected to the internet you'll need to look in the Viera connect app store from the interface on the TV. That said I wasnt aware Viera connect had ITV player or 4OD but you can check here:

Thanks thescouselander.
I can't see itv or 4od on that site, but if you look here you'll see that it should have it. This site also has a link showing when downloads are available to give access to those and all dates are in the past now. Yes I'm connected to the Internet but all i can see is bbc ( and a range of other apps). Do you have one of these tvs? Anyone else have one?
I think a trip to John Lewis and a talk with the Panasonic guy is called for here.

The TV I have doesn't have the Freetime feature - looks like you might access it from the TV guide by viewing previous days schedules.0 -

Actually I've just this evening figured out how to access the freetime stuff, at least one way. I go to a certain type of home screen and there is a window called On Demand. This gives access to bbc, itv, 4od and others, which allow you to select and view 'old' broadcasts. Because I had seen a bbc app elsewhere on the tv, I was expecting to see apps for itv, 4od etc. So just my confusion (or the usual total lack of instructions that seem to be the norm these days).
There might be other ways to select old broadcasts, for example the same home screen has a Guide which is different to the Freeview guide. Not quite sure what the difference is. I thought at first that this guide was the freetime one that I could simply go backwards through it and select old programs. Can't seem to do this though.
Lots to play with. Pity about them dull corners though. The missus hasn't spotted them yet, so maybe I'm worrying unduly.
