Hey,

I'm with npower dual fuel at the moment. I have gas boiler for heating, and the rest is electric. However, I'm planning on getting a plugin hybrid electric car and charge that at home, thus my electricity usage will double in a year (from 3200 kWh to 6400 kWn per year approx).

I went to browse all major energy suppliers, and none of them list their economy7 tariff prices!!!

Is economy7 tariffs still on the market? What are the costs today?

Maybe you need to look harder :)

Uswitch shows which companies are cheaper for your area. With the potential savings and links to the website with prices.

All the companies have their tariffs online also.

Here are EDF's prices for example..... http://www.edfenergy.com/products-services/for-your-home/documents/pdfssky/gen-prices.pdf

Look again, all suppliers offer E7.
Bear in mind that you will pay a premium rate for all your usage outside the cheap rate night hours, and that you will possibly have to pay for a new meter.
You won't get any other benefits unless you have NSH's and an immersion heater, which with gas CH and DHW you clearly won't.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    Hi xnoxxnox,

    Thanks for posting.

You can view our Economy 7 tariffs using this link: !!!!!!!/1bF9326

As prices vary from area to area and tariff, all you need to do is pop your post code in, fill in the required fields and select Economy 7 as your electricity meter type. We'll then be able to show you all tariffs that we can offer you.

    I hope this helps

    Thanks

    Leigh :)

I'd seriously look at if an E7 tariff is right for those with EV's, many people I know who have them through work remain on a normal tariff because you pay a premium during the day for E7. You'd also need to control the charge so that it only comes on during E7 hours too.

You won't be able to compare your current (one rate) tariff to a two rate tariff.
If you have a one rate meter you will need to get the meter changed to two rate to get the two rate tariffs.

    E7 at

    Night rate 8p x 3200kWh = £256

    Day rate 20p x 3200 = £640

    Total £896 = £256 + £640, ignoring standing charge

    Single rate at 15p , 6,400kWh = £960

Actually, my single rate is 10.076 + VAT = 10.58p,
    So 6,400kWh is only £677.10

    It's very simple maths.

You will end up paying £60 less a year, but have to wear your underwear outside and sleep hanging upside down to get to it.

Some of the suppliers have specific EV tariffs that wont appear on comparisons sites. I think they are generally a normal tariff + bolt ons

Ecotricity have one but I think its just a £10 discount on top of other tariffs

EDF also have one, I think its just EC020:20 but possibly with a free charging station. They have a dedicated EV team

    FREE is my favourite word.

Does this mean people will pull up to your house at 3am, because a Sat-Nav (or an iPhone App) told them there is an EV charging point? In the morning, you find fag ends and condoms because they have to wait 30 minutes for charging up to 80%.

Otherwise, I would put one in the garage, where the main consumer unit is. Single phase though. For £7,000, it's probably three phase, so does this mean digging up the road? I don't mind at all. The gas pipe is the new thicker yellow one, the water is the 22mm blue pipe, it's just the electricity mains that hasn't been done. The drive is patchy from the previous works, and going three phase should mean I can finally do the drive, and not touch it until they invent teleport, which presumably needs a supercooled absolute zero superconducting quantum effect insanely fast broadband connection.

If I'm really lucky, the £7,000 includes restoring the drive.

My other sweet dream includes Angelina Jolie wanting to go for sainthood, and so wants to give her worldly possessions to me, and spend one last night of worldly passion with me before giving herself entirely to Jesus.
