Restaurant closes and wages not paid

The restaurant where my son worked closed on Friday with no notice to the employees. Salaries were not paid on Thurs. Owner not responding to calls or texts. What should my son do to hopefully get his salary?

Is the owner a sole trader or is the owner operating through a limited liability company?

Have a look here - https://www.gov.uk/your-rights-if-your-employer-is-insolvent/overview which gives an overview of what happens. Unfortunately it is likely that it will take some time to resolve so there will be a delay before he gets anything.

He would need to have been employed for 2 years or longer to claim redundancy pay.

I am not sure whether he will be able to claim any statutory payments if his employer has done a runner rather than being bankrupt or the company becoming insolvent - I suspect that his only option might be o try to pursue the employer personally through the small claims court.
