Yes Archi Bald, that's my current position.

So you can indeed get more than £6.50 a month from £2,000 in TSB Plus.

I am quite happy to pay tax as long as my taxed income is a lot more than what I could earn untaxed

'Content' would be the word I'd use. ;)

I am still quite happy if you prefer the word content :). May I just have a happy disposition.

One thing I can't see is if the £200 is completely 'surplus' cash or if the OP is saving for a specific reason. Also, no mention of any pension.

If the £200 is 'free' money and you don't mind losing it for all intents and purposes until you are 55 then you could consider putting it into some sort of pension.

If a basic rate taxpayer £200 = £240/MONTH being invested (plus any interest or investment growth), if a higher rate taxpayer then it = £280/month.

Downside is it will be locked away and you won't be able to touch it until you are 55 at least.

Evening, thought this thread had died.

I do have a pension already, pretty good one too but it's through my work and comes directly out my paycheck so I don't see much point in factoring that into anything, I'm only really interested in money I have control over.

The 200 a month isn't 'free' I could quite easily and happily throw it up a wall on beers or nice food or whatever but it's slightly over 10% of my monthly earnings so I try and save it. Some months it's easy and I don't miss it, others I begin to struggle around the 20th.
