Rights on a tablet that not working but was free

Signed up to a deal in Tesco Mobile where they offered a phone and 'free' tablet as part of the deal. The tablet, a Samsung tab 3, worked fine to start with, but then started freezing intermittently. Took it back to Tesco and he rebooted it for me, problem sorted. However, a couple of days later the tablet actually wouldn't turn on! Took it back again and they gave me a replacement. That was initially fine, but now the same thing is happening - it won't turn on!!
Samsung is a reputable make, so I am really surprised by this, but obviously not happy! The problem is that it was 'free', albeit slightly more expensive than the phone only package, so can I do anything, other than just keep getting replacements?

What model is it ?
Just wondering as I was thinking of getting a new tablet.0 -
It's not free, it was part of a deal, a deal that would not have been bought if it wasn't included so it is very much part of the contract and has all the same consumer rights.
However, to answer your question they are dealing with it within the law, so yes they can still replace it.0 -
What Bris says is right, but it might be worth remembering that after six months from sale you may be asked to prove that the fault is inherent.
In other words, you may not be easily able to "just keep getting replacements".
As you say, Samsung are a reputable make, so is it possible that the problem is due to something you are doing?
Downloading a rogue app or something?
DCFC79, re-read the original post.What model is it ?0 -
This is the first search result I got, there are lots of others so it's not an uncommon problem.

From reading that it sounds like a rogue app could be a possibility.0 -
Thanks for all your replies. I've not downloaded anything that I would think could cause it to crash - literally a couple of games, which my daughter also has on her Tab 2 and she doesn't experience the same problems. But, that said, it might be worth, after I get it sorted this time, not putting any apps on for a couple of weeks and seeing what happens.0

Wont turn on is usually battery .
Freezing can be user apps rogue apps or many other reasons . A factory reset returning the product to the out of the box state is the first step .0 -
I think, it is not free.0

Have you tried charging it via another method, eg USB ? Does the battery life display icon go down in use from green to orange to red ?0 -
Was fully charged, so should have turned on, and was given completely new charger with the second tablet, so can't be a dodgy charger.
A factory reset was what was done on the first occasion.
Anyway, off to Tesco tomorrow to return second tablet, and then when get next one will see how it goes for a week without adding any apps to it.0
