This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all,

Another beautiful day here we have been so lucky with the weather this year. Off to work for me again its emergency services day today so lots of men in uniform :D might be a busy one too.

As predicted we had a curry last night very nice too, tonight will either be spag bol or tacos with the other one tomorrow night, OH has also got to do the online shopping.

I am going to put a wash on before I go and ask him to hang it out too.

Lilyplonk lets hope your dear mum gets out of there asap, hope there is some improvement soon xx

Have good days all xx

  • Good morning redruby and all who cross/follow :)

More rain last night and lots of loud thunder rumbles. Looks bright this morning so am about to hang out an overnight wash and put another load in the washing machine.

The layered pilaff was delicious and well worth the faff to make it and there is lots of left overs. Am thinking about filled flat breads for tomorrow's lunch.

DD's MRI scan is this morning so need to get a move on and get jobs done then go and collect her.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day.

    Good morning :)

It's a lovely sunny Sunday here this morning. Much prefer this to all that rain we had yesterday.

Going to run the WM shortly and want to give the fridge a good clear out and clean. We are having roast beef for dinner today - sadly with shop bought yorkshire pudding as I just cannot make them. I follow instructons, don't try to cut corners but no, I jut cannot do it :o

I've got one more shelf on our bedroom bookcase to go through - mainly folders with various bits in and I would like to get that finished today but OH may have plans so will see how that goes.

Last night I was reading through old threads from 2004 / 5. There is a wealth of information on these boards :)

Hope you all have a good day :)

  • Good Morning everyone, another lovely day here and definately cooler so much more comfortable.

We have a lovely piece of Brisket for supper that was YS from Mr.T which will be simmering in the slow cooker all day and we picked yet more raspberries from the lottie last night so I'm making some jam as the freezers are almost full already. He Who Knows has started making cider again as we have lots of offers of fallen apples and we already have 3 gallons burbling away on the windowsill in the study in various states of fermentedness, we made 250 odd bottles last year which kept him in booze for a very long time.

DD1 comes home tomorrow morning and He Who Knows will pick her up from the airport and take her home, collect Pushkin cat and do a shop with her to set her up for a few days then I'm off to stay for a week to make sure she gets a rest this summer as I know that she has work to do as the A and AS levels will be changing next year and then there are the A level and GCSE results days where she needs to be in school and celebrate or comfort depending on results and sort out problems if there are any, hard work teaching!!!!!

Have yourselves a really good day everyone, Lyn xxx.

    Morning :hello:

The osteopath rang yesterday morning, I have an appointment on wednesday evening – I'm dreading it and looking forward to it all at the same time. Just underwear is better for the first appointment but she said I can wear gym shorts and a vest top if I must :D So I'm going shopping for big knickers and shorts, lol. Leggings will be probably be fine for subsequent appointments, but she needs to see exactly how I move and how much I can move the first time. Not much actually so it won't take long :D Dreading the thought of a stranger touching me *shudders*

We had a brilliant thunderstorm yesterday afternoon, it went very dark and absolutely lashed down. By 6pm it was sunny.

Mr tru's mate's wife works for a company that supplies pots to garden centres, they sell the seconds off cheap. She said she'd let us know when they had any, then yesterday turned up with two – they're about 2' across at the top and 18” high, a lovely blue colour. Free! She threw in a couple of bags of compost too.

I just pottered about yesterday morning then crocheted all afternoon. More of the same today I think :D

    Mornin' OS'ers :hello:

redruby - thanks for starting us off today and hope you have a good day in work. Thanks also for your good wishes for Mum :).
TTFTM - :T on your pilaff and hope your DD's MRI goes well today.
Hester - Enjoy your day with the dgk's :D.
jlhmd666 - :T on your decluttering and enjoy your Roast Dinner. I've promised OH a full Roast Chicken Dinner for tomorrow - I'd better dig the chicken out from the depths of the freezer .............. IF I can find it - should be down the very bottom!
MrsLurcherWalker - sounds like a very busy day with 'jamming' / brewing / cooking - enjoy your day :D.
tru - Hope all goes well for your visit to the Osteopath tomorrow - being physically scrutinised by a stranger is always uncomfortable, so you have my total comforting.gif. Fingers crossed that she can come up with something to help improve your mobility.

At the moment we have a lovely, bright sunny morning here - quite unlike yesterday evening's 30 minute 'stair-rod deluge with hail and thunder'! I've never seen it that heavy for that long before . I was caught totally unawares by it at the cash machine and could barely operate it with the force of the rain. My money / purse and contents / back pack all got saturated in seconds - it was absolutely awful but I couldn't help but  at the same time. By the time I made a dive for A$da the thunder and hailstones had started and the main road was like a river overflowing onto the pavements ....................... wasn't even any benefit from trying to run as I was already soaked from top to bottom.

CS yesterday was fairly quiet - though we had little 'busy times' when people ran in to shelter from the occasional bursts of rain during the afternoon - that's when we got them for tea/coffee and toasted tea-cakes.

All laundry dried on the airer while I was out yesterday - now back in drawers / on hangers /in cupboards again - still managing to avoid using the TD :j.

    Plans for today include:
    • Finish tidying up in living room.
    • Have a lovely shower.
    • Do a packed lunch.
    • Go to visit Mum. They've changed visiting time to anytime between 12-7.00pm - but that doesn't mean that we need to stay all that time. We'll be doing it in batches arranged to give Mum a break between groups of visitors.
    • Might treat myself to a 'posh coffee' in Co$ta while getting through Liverpool - I've got enough points for a freebie :j.
    • Not sure what to do for evening meal - could be Beans & Egg on Toast as I won't feel like proper cooking. Don't think I've 'proper cooked' for ages with all the running around .......... :(

Have a good day everybody and take care - luv Lilyplonk xx

    Morning

    redrubyit's lovely for January ;)

ttfm hope the MRI for dd is ok

It's our wedding anniversary today ,24 years where on earth has the time gone? We are out for a Sunday lunch with the DDs and MIL , looking forward to that

The house is fairly tidy so I'm hoping it stays that way . There's washing to do which I will put on in a few minutes. I am currently trying to declutter upstairs, DH is a hoarder and clings to every book , piece of paper , nail or screw , I have to do it when he's occupied doing something else otherwise it descends into an argument:cool: problem is what to do with bags of kr@p I have

Off for some breakfast. Have a lovely day everyone xx

    Morning all :)

Ttftm- good luck to your DD with her scan
Tru- how lovely for her to give you the pots, and such big ones too!
Lilyplonk- hope mum is on the mend and home again ASAP.
    Sistercas- congrats x

I really struggle to remember who said what once the page is shut, but who ever said they don't iron I'm a member of the club too! We have a travel iron and folded towel for my DH shirt whenever there is a funeral or wedding, and that's it!

Speaking of weddings we are back and it was lovely :T. DH and I started dieting in preparation of it back in January :rotfl: everyone commented on how nice we looked - I had two lovely dressed I fitted into, and DH has lost 3 stone :p DH kept saying how nice I looked and I said "you'd forgotten how well your wife scrubs up eh?" Usually I live in tshirt and jeans because my day is either cleaning or going food shopping. Sometimes I do think it would be nice to make more effort but it doesn't seem very practical if I'm just scrubbing the loo!

As the wedding had passed, yesterday we has an almighty day of feasting - cheese sandwiches at lunch, chicken Kiev and fried potatoes for dinner, chocolate trifle and I ate a packet of chocolate biscuits to myself :o however I don't want to undo all my hard work, so will be back onto the healthy eating again today - I just needed a little blow out ;)

Washing to be done, and another odd chore - reading. I collect vintage mags and bought a huge pile when we went away a few weeks back which I still haven't read. I don't like to put them away unread, and as the are stacked on the side in the dining room it looks messy, so a good read is needed!

Also I am STIlLL working on that jumper, it's taking an age but reading about all you ladies with your crochet is inspiring me to pick up my needles again :)

We've had a sweet little success here to - DS2 is 17 but never managed to swallow pills which is a nightmare when ill. This last week he went to the dr and was given antibiotics and they were pills. I had made him go alone cos he's a bit big for mum to come too, but ofc he forgot to ask for syrup instead. Anyway after a messy few days involving gallons of water and the capsules dissolving before he swallowed them, he has finally cracked it :T It might seem a little thing to people who don't struggle, but I'm so proud that he has FINALLY got the knack of it :D

We looked at two houses yesterday. Don't they look smaller in real life compared to the agents crafty photos? Neither was any good but it was a nice trip out anyway :)

Right I've waffled on enough, have a great day all - hugs here for you if you need them ;) xx

    Morning All

Went to the Women's Hockey Finals at the Commonwealth Games yesterday, we were wet before we got there and then had to sit in an open stand! To say we were we was an understatement even though we had our ponchos, the rain got in everywhere. The trains were all steamed up on the way home and I am sure I was a candidate for trench foot!

DD up and out at the men's finals this morning armed with brollie, poncho and a bin bag to put her own bag in. It has just started to rain, such a shame for the end of the games. Still, we saw some really good hockey and Australia won.

Going for a swim again in a short while then need to buy some more emergency ponchos for going away as we used them yesterday. Case to pack and dinner to cook, think we will have chicken and veg.

House not too bad, the washing will have to go on the airers and will put the DW on after breakfast.

tru - hope your appointment is ok, I had to go when I hurt my back and they were very understanding.

Hope you all have a good Sunday. Take care. XX
