Car insurance
I currently live in London but have been assigned to work at a site which is 150 miles away. This is for 1 year only after which I will be transferred back to my usual place of work in London. If I wanted I could commute every day, but I don't want to waste 5 hours a day in a car.
The job provides accommodation on site although I will have to sign a tenancy agreement and pay rent. I intend to stay there for between 5 to 12 days at a time and drive back to London on most weekends
Will an SDPC policy be suitable for this and is it ok to declare my London address as my home, but state that the car will on most nights be parked at my work address?
Also, does an 01 code (glasses) represent a "DVLA notifiable condition"?

When my daughter applied for her licence it asked if she needed glasses to do the numberplate test.
You need to speak to your insurer, Normal commuting should apply. But do speak to them to confirm the situation.
Some may rate it on the address its kept at most of the time rather than the home address.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
My understanding is that the address they want is the one where your car will be most of the time.
So if you're a university student and your car is parked up outside your student house for 5 days a week, and you go home on weekends, it's the university address that is the correct one to give, if you live at one address but visit your GF/BF twice a week, it's your home address.
In your case it will almost certainly be the address where you are 5 days a week, as from memory the question on the Insurance declaration is for "Where is your car normally kept" (or normally kept overnight), which means where is it kept most of the time when not in use, because it's that which will affect the risk the most.
Re glasses you do not have to notify the DVLA you wear them from memory if you've already passed your test (unless you've got specific conditions), but if you passed your driving test wearing them/contacts, or need to wear corrective devices to be able to read the licence plate at the standard distance, then you need to wear them when driving, I think when I passed my test the examiner actually noted it down (that was 20 odd years ago so my memory is a little rusty). It's possible the licence renewal form/change of address form asks though.
The insurance companies are probably asking because it potentially gives them another bit of data for the risk profile, and will let them ask "were you wearing your glasses at the time?" if you have an accident, you'd probably be horrified if you realised how many people tend to not get their eyes tested on a regular basis, or need glasses but don't wear them when driving for one reason or another.0 -
TBH, Business Class 1 is normally the same price as SDPC if done at the time of purchasing and very rarely above £5 if there is any charge. On that basis it simply makes sense to have it on the off chance you ever need to go to another office.
Given the car will be at the other address more often than your family home they most likely will want it declared as your home, though you can have your family home as a correspondence address.0
