it is so true, there is a way of saying this to friends in a kind, tactful way that doesn't hurt, and at the end of the day, if it makes people happy , it's not important in the grand scheme of things. I've been through such a lot recently, almost dying due to medical negligence and having a colostomy for 3 years, which has now been reversed but my self esteem is so fragile from all that, I am trying to learn how to face the world again, and build myself up. They know now to be more gentle, as I cried my eyes out . My best friend isn't the most tactful of people but hopefully she will be nicer. Thanks for all your advice , it is so appreciated. :)

How about some rosey pale pinks? They're still quite pale but not wishy washy.
I love pale lips with a black smokey eye but now I'm mid 20s even I feel too old for pale lips now so I'm moving onto more rose pink tones.

I am 46 and wear paler but not pale colours, deeper and brighter colours are very aging and make your lips look smaller, however there is a fine line between neutral and too pale which can you look a bit !!!!!! star iykwim :) I have similar colouring to you and have a couple of suggestions for you, as a treat try MAC Crème cup, a blue toned pink mlbb colour and the amazing Pure Zen, very similar to Crème Cup but more peach based, this one suits me best, both are on the matte side. On a more budget friendly note the best lipsticks on the high street are Mirror Shine by 17, very very similar to Chanel lipsticks, they are very mositurising and give a gorgeous plumping effect and are someway between a lipstick and gloss, not great staying power but cheap enough to reapply regularly, I like the colours Belle, which is a medium pink and universally flattering but the one I think you may like which is probably my all time favourite go to lipstick is called Beehive, its a neutral peachy/pinky colour which somehow has cool undertones so also makes teeth look whiter :) Happy lipstick shopping :)

I was always told go as dark as you can, while still feeling comfortable.

ELF Runway Pink is a pretty pale colour so I can see what they mean.

Does your computer have a webcam/do you have a recent photo of yourself?

If so, I definitely suggest going onto the Bobbi Brown website and chatting to an advisor here:

    http://www.bobbibrown.co.uk/cms/customer_service/picture_perfect_chat.tmpl

asking specifically for tips on lipstick.

When they have given you some ideas, write the colours down and politely say thank you ;)

Then search Google for: 'Bobbi Brown (lipstick name) dupe' - of which there will be PLENTY. That way, you can get an idea of the types of colours a make up artist has recommended you for much cheaper than BB prices.

Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.
  • I personally am not a bad fan of "paler than the lips" lip colours. It takes me back to college days when people used to use concealer as lipstick! That's just a personal choice, and I am probably only thinking of the times when it looked really bad, rather than when it looked good!

If you like pale lips why not look for a "my lips but better" colour? Something nude but not really much lighter or darker than your natural lip colour? But also, if you like your lip colour, then tell your friends that and wear it for you. The point of make up is to make yourself feel nice and confident, it's for you, not for anyone else.
    No more goo hoarding!

That seems quite harsh, I'm not sure I would be quite so blunt with my girlfriends, a little tact goes a long way. I think it has alreday been suggested, but going to a reputable make up counter really is helpful. Good luck and try not to let it dent your confidence too much x

thanks so much for the reply, my friends were insensitive and they shouldn't have been so harsh. They said sorry and I do think they meant it. I tried on red and a fushia pink and they don't suit me, so I'm going to stick with my nudes and corals , but I'm going to not go too light!

Maybe try something like a lip tint? Benefit do one called Benetint and it's great :)

I'm glad they said sorry - they should have thought of a better way to say it :)
New to this money saving lark. Any tips greatly received.
