No Gas Supplier

We have recently moved house and the previous owners advised us that Swalec were the Gas and Electric suppliers.

When I spoke to Swalec they said they weren't the suppliers. I then called the Meter Number helpline, gave them my address etc and they said that there is no supplier of gas to the property...

There is definitely gas being supplied to the property and the lady on the phone said we can just pick our supplier and ask them to register us.

My query is, do we pay this company from when we moved in? Or is it just from the date we tell them? I don't understand who we need to pay for the gas we've used to date?! I think its going to be the same situation with electric..

Take the meter numbers from your meter. Phone these numbers

and see who supplies the property. It may well be nobody, but that's really quite rare.

Thanks Bluebird.. they have actually confirmed that there is no supplier linked to the property, I just don't understand who is supplying the gas and who we owe money to! really weird..

Your property is shipperless: the supply all comes from the same source.

I would register it. I can see its tempting to keep using it and hop nobody bills you. But if the previous occupiers have now paid it for some time. Is there a risk of you being billed for all the previous usage also?

Take monthly readings - probably best with a camera and back up somewhere else

Sit back and wait to see what happens

Be prepared for a bill *if* one comes
The money is better in your account than theirs!!
