Divorce, what has my mum signed?

Hi all, just a quick question... My mum and dad are divorcing, my mum went to sign some papers the other day and insists she signed one to say she wouldn't get married again. That can't be right can it, does anyone have an idea what she signed?

The stage they are at is near the end, they've agreed settlements terms and the first bit of the divorce has gone through.

Is your mum getting a personal allowance, like spousal support? sometimes that can be agreed at a set amount until remarriage. Otherwise it might be to do with splitting a future pension. Your mum could remarry of course, but she'd lose the money.

Thanks, they are both pensioners already and I'm sure their pensions were similar and mum wasn't taking any of dad's or vice versa. But what you say makes sense so it's obviously something along those lines. x

Wasn't she given a copy of what she signed? If not, get her to ask for one.
