HSBC account --> guarantee First Direct?

Maybe i'm talking utter sh!te? but if i have a HSBC account Debit/Credit am i guaranteed a First Direct account or not?? because HSBC do own them.

or it simply doesn't work like that ?

    No sorry.

    I have a first direct current account and also a first direct visa card.

    I also have an HSBC premier account, however they won't give me a credit card.

    I "think" FD and HSBC operate as separate businesses.

    How come? How do you know? How does the applicant notice the difference in speed?

    When I applied for a credit card, they said before I would have to send some documentation through the post and the application could take about 2 weeks as part of their credit check. Then they saw I had a bank account with HSBC (which First Direct is part of their group). So they looked into the account over the telephone and the application was finished in about 20 minutes.

    That would have been nothing to do with a credit check, it would have been to do with identification. Credit checks are instant for all banks, they're done electronically.

    You don't need to supply documents for a credit check.
