HSBC account --> guarantee First Direct?

Maybe i'm talking utter sh!te? but if i have a HSBC account Debit/Credit am i guaranteed a First Direct account or not?? because HSBC do own them.
or it simply doesn't work like that ?

I have a first direct current account and also a first direct visa card.
I also have an HSBC premier account, however they won't give me a credit card.
I "think" FD and HSBC operate as separate businesses.

When I applied for a credit card, they said before I would have to send some documentation through the post and the application could take about 2 weeks as part of their credit check. Then they saw I had a bank account with HSBC (which First Direct is part of their group). So they looked into the account over the telephone and the application was finished in about 20 minutes.0 -

That would have been nothing to do with a credit check, it would have been to do with identification. Credit checks are instant for all banks, they're done electronically.
You don't need to supply documents for a credit check.0
