Damp Proof/ Replastering

Just had a quote for remedial work to our living room and downstairs bathroom.

This guy is local council approved and is currently carrying out work at next doors property.

His quote for renewing the DPC and ancilliary work seem reasonable enough but I am having a problem with this part of the quotation :-

PLASTERWORK

To replace all contaminated plasterwork indicated in green on our enclosed survey plan, with sand/cement base coat incorporating a Safeguard waterproofing additive. Final coat to be skimmed finish.

TOTAL COST OF LABOUR & MATERIALS £1300 + vat

I have just measured the area referred to on the plan, and (being generous) it is 20 Sq Metres.

Is he trying to pull my pants down?

    Hi Rubble,

    I can't comment on the quote as I don't know enough about the job at hand, but depending on your confidence have you thought of doing the remedial work yourself? Removing the decor, skirting, plaster, etc. is a doddle, you can hire the injection kit from a plant hire company such as "ermin plant" they will also be able to give you advice on how to do the work associated with the damproofing and then you can get someone in in just to do the re-plastering.

    A friend of mine did this and I will be doing it next year when the tennants move out of my rental property. I think it only ended up costing him circa £200 + his time for the actual damp proofing and £2000 for someone to re-plaster his whole downstairs area.

    Hopefully someone who specialises in this work will be able to help you out a little more...

  • We had a similar issue in our kitchen. We used a product called freezteq, you remove the plaster, drill holes into the wall at a set distance (think it was 3-6") and push the frozen rod into the wall.

    Then get a plasterer in to finish off!

    The freezteq cost about £100 I think, the drill cost about £30 to hire as you need a proper HSS masonry drill
