Help please with pair of glasses

I brought glasses and in the week that it took to get them made, I found out I had a retinal tear and was advised not to wear the new glasses. I was never asked during the purchase whether I have any appointments and didn't think the problem was serious at all obviously. I now need to have surgery on my eye and it will take time to recover and will need reassessment which is why I cant wear my glasses anymore.

Can I get a full refund?

Did you have an eye test and immediately afterwards choose the glasses? or did you just go in with an existing prescription? If a test was done and should have shown the retinal tear but didn't then you'd have a good case for a refund, but if you didn't have a test then whether you can get a refund will depend on the seller's policy and possibly their goodwill.

No. You placed an order for a product, the company are supplying that product. It isn't their fault that the product is unsuitable, nor is it their job to check that it is right for you.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but unfortunately this is just one of those things.

Why would they ask you if you had any appointments? Surely the onus would be on you to say 'actually I have an appointment at X in a few days'

OP if you had an appointment coming up, why didnt you wait to order glasses after that appt.

Why would an optician ask if you had any appts coming up.

Did you have a test at that opticians and then order your glasses? If you did that may be a different story

I had double cataract surgery earlier this year and went to the Opticians to get my eyes tested, for the consultant to sign me off at the hospital. I needed reading glasses, but the Optician was wary of even testing me firstly and refused point blank to supply me any reading glasses, until I was signed off from the Hospital.

OP , I cannot see , if had you told them you had a forthcoming eye appointment, that the would have supplied any glasses to you. Because you never told them, they were not to know. It is all your own fault. The equipment they have instore, whilst being excellent, may not be expert enough to pick something like this up, especially if they are not informed you are having issues.

I have in the past not agreed with some of the posts that Thumb Remote has posted on this site, but this time he is 100% Spot on. Keep hold of the glasses, you may find you need them after your eye problem is sorted. They have told you to not wear them, as they will make your eye muscles tighten/relax, which will interfere with the tear. Once it is fixed and healed you may be ok.

Well, I didn't know I had a retinal tear prior to purchasing the glasses. I thought it would be a minor problem but it turned out to be very serious. Anyway, Asda were awesome, I explained my circumstances and they refunded me without any hassle and even saved the frames for after I come back so I could repurchase them if I wanted.

As a sidenote, I've had some laser treatment and am due a checkup. Next time I won't assume its nothing and I've definitely learnt my lesson, but kudos to asda for doing that.

You've had a result, as you've said, it's something to learn from.
