What trainers for the gym?

Options
Hi.

I go to the gym about 4x a week. I do an hour of cardio, plus some weights. I really need some new trainers, as mine are not giving me the support that I need and occasionally rub.

What trainers do you all use? I cant spend loads of money, about £40 max. I thought I would go into sports direct next week and pick some up.

Any recommendations?

I use my old running shoes. The grip on them is fine, I just never really got on with them.

Thanks IK. I need new ones, as I just bought a pair from Primark when I started going to the gym, as I didn't want to spend money until I knew I would continue to go to the gym.

If I did need new shoes for the gym again, I'd just buy a pair that fit properly and are comfy. Which is what I think I did before.

i have a pair of saucony which are lovely and comfy however i did pay £50 for them. If you are going to get a pair in sports direct try & have a little run around in them to see how you get on.

Before i bought the saucony i bought a pair of asics from decathlon which fit me fine, and fine to walk in. Running in them was another matter though - they ended up giving me enormous blisters.

  • There's a lot of choice it there and it really comes down to personal preference if you are working out in the gym /classes. If you run at all, then you need to make sure you have the right trainers for your foot strike, or you could risk injury. My advice is to have a look online at places like Sportsshoes.com who do a fab range. Don't bother buying the latest range /model - if you go for shoes from last season you often get all the benefits from the trainer (newer versions dont usually have much changes, maybe sometimes it's just a different colour!) but because they are classed as part season they can be half price or less
Wiggle.com is also another good website to try.

Footwear is the one part of fitness equipment that you don't really want to be cheap with.
Unfortunately, the best designed trainers are the expensive ones. I'd happily spend £100 on trainers that I use everyday. Because they last longer than cheap ones and are more suited to the job.

I'd look to find ones from last years range for example that they are trying to get rid off.

For example I picked up a pair of last years Nike Flyknits 3.0 for £49.99 rather than £129 from my local outlet centre. Btw, best trainer I have ever owned.

I previously wore a pair of very worn Skechers. They were lightweight ones which I hadn't been able to find anything near as good :( however I bought a pair of black and pink Fila trainers for £24.99 from TKMaxx and find them perfectly sufficient- like you I do an hour of cardio and they're fine- comfy and supportive. sports direct sold me a pair of Reeboks that took all the skin off the backs of my ankles and I've just sold them on EBay..

Hi, I asked the same question a few days ago, see answers here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5024602

I bought a pair of black Asics for £29.99 plus postage total £33.98, been using them for both outdoor bootcamp and gym and am very satisfied.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I've currently got skechers memory foam - £60 in shop, £30 on Amazon. I really like them although I don't think they would suit everyone. A lot of people in my cardio class rate the kswiss tubes.

(Just checked Amazon and the ones I bought for £30 2 months ago are now £50...)

When I needed some new ones I looked around to see what others were wearing in the classes I attend and noticed that Asics running shoes seemed to be most popular (at least I think they are running). I bought some a bit like these and they are so comfortable and flexible. I do a range of classes from Zumba to Body Pump so needed something that would be fine for both:

I was lucky to get mine abroad in an outlet store so they were good value, as there is a huge range in the Brand and some are very pricey.

There's a huge range in the Brand at different levels and prices.
