Not singling out ASDA, its just the SM I use, but why is buying, say peaches such a gamble. You get one punnet, leave a few days to ripen, then there fine.
But on another day they just turn to a pappy mush.
Same with Galia melons, you may get 1 nice one, then one like ive just got, hard & tough & Tasteless.. Strawberries seem to be less of a gamble, but then there usually pretty tasteless any way. Yes, I know they'll always give you your money Back, but its still a pain.. Yes I am leaving them to ripen first.

It's just how fruit works I'm afraid. I don't think there's anything they can do, other than GM the hell out of the fruit until it's always perfect and stays perfect for months."Always fulfil your needs, only fulfil your wants when your needs are no longer a concern" - citricsquid0

I thought I saw something on a tellyprog about this being linked to the fact that the fruit are held in cold storage for quite some time, and then forced into ripeness using gases. It results in a really short 'ripe' period.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

your right about that , when i buy things like peaches or nectarines from Asda or sainsburys they are usually very cold when you inspect them before purchase and hard as rock
by about midweek still hard and then all of a sudden one might get a bad spot
if i buy from local fruit shop or aldi/lidl i never have the problem"If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane"0 -
Yes this sort of thing happens often with any supermarket fruit although I think it's more common with peaches and nectarines and seems to me to be seasonal - maybe they store the things for ages sometimes. I've had them go wrinkly before they've ever properly softened. Once I find this happening I lay off buying them for a while.0

Supermarkets also grow varieties for their convenience in terms of looks and transport, with flavour being lower down the list.
Buy fruit from a local greengrocer, market, or farm shop and you will probably taste the difference.0 -
Anyone else remember AZAD video?

I have this problem often with the small "easy peeler" type oranges they sell and sometimes the bananas.
They often go from perfect ripeness, to mush in 24-48 hoursAll your base are belong to us.0
