How to protect Burglar Alarm siren. Ground floor

Hi,
I live in a ground floor flat. I would like to fit a burglar alarm for added security.
The external siren however can only be placed on the external walls of my flat as upstairs won't help.
What would be the best way to protect the external siren. Being on the ground floor it would be easy just to put a hammer through it.
Many thanks.

From a sound-generation point of view, do you actually need an external siren? A siren designed for interior use would be sufficient to wake everybody in your building and probably people in neighbouring ones as well.
OTOH, an external bell-box is a visual deterent to burglars.0 -

Thank you, I knew I've seen something like this before but couldn't think where.0 -
As long as it's above the height of anyone reaching up from street level, how can they 'put a hammer through it'? By the time they've fetched a ladder, it will have hopefully done it's job.
If an alarm doesn't act as a deterrent in the first few seconds, or by it's very presence, it's useless anyway. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I was thinking of a cage over a normal plastic box but then it looks a bit unslightly, makes it look like your in a rough area.
You can get metal bell boxes that look neat but will be stronger and perhaps won't need a cage over them. Something like this but perhaps shop around for a cheaper one:

OP. If you and your upstairs neighbour are in leasehold flats, your lease gives you the RIGHT to run wires for Ariels (etc) on the outside walls past their flat, just as their lease gives them the RIGHT to run pipes (etc) past your flat.0

I'd go with the flue cage Idea mentioned earlier, but to be honest I would simply also go with a dummy box with strobe.
It is however imperative that your doors and windows are alarmed and that you go with the loudest internal alarm possible, and sited to be within earshot of both the door and hallway.
They do vary greatly in terms of volume, out present internal alarm on the main panel is definitely louder than the external 1.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

Was thinking about the cage overnight. That's what I was thinking about.
Like the metal case siren, not sure how I would get it to work though. The alarm is one of the Yale wireless alarms so would maybe have to transplant the insides.
At the minute I'm looking round for another wireless siren. One for outside and one for the porch/living room. Thinking if they wanna break in then they are going to leave with their ears bleeding.
It's a really good area and will probably never be needed but I always like to secure everything as much as possible.0 -
I can vouch for the Response wireless units volume, I have to approach mine with a finger in 1 ear and my shoulder in the other while I switch it off.
Others I've had have been tame by comparison. The oustide box however is poor both in terms of volume and strobe/led visibilityI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

All that's going to happen if someone 'puts a hammer through it' is that it'll set the alarm off.
If this actually did happen a few times, which is pretty unlikely, your upstairs neighbours would probably get fed up and rethink their refusal to let you put it higher.0
