Airport closure and departure city change

Hi all,

I've ah a weekend break booked to Bologna (Italy) in September for a few months now. Flying Manchester-Bologna-Manchester. Two days ago I received an email from the booking site to inform me that Bologna Airport will be closed for resurfacing the day prior and the day of my return flight.

I was given an option to accept/reject alternative flight home from Pisa airport at an hour earlier than my original flight. Looking at train travel from Bologna-Pisa, the only way I can get there would only arrive 20mins before flight departure, which isn't long enough when relying on public transport and travelling with my partner who is limited mobility (on crutches).

Can anyone inform me of where I stand? Should the airline (Ryanair) be giving further options, compensating for additional travel costs, or will I need to claim through travel insurance?

Thanks from a stressed out traveller...

Have Ryanair offered you the option of a full refund? If so I doubt whether they are required to also offer you transport to Pisa to go with the alternative flight option. Would it be possible for you to stay an extra day if there is a Ryanair flight from Bologna the next day?

Start looking at options from Verona or Venice.

My understanding is that Ryanair will be able to refund your flight costs (for that leg only). I'll let others give a more conclusive explanation.

You won't be able to claim through your insurance as you knew about the issue in advance. The insurance company will take the view you could have taken the full refund and then gone another time.
Ryanair wouldn't be further liable as they gave you advance notice and also the closure wasn't of their making but beyond their control.
