When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

  • Morning all!

I hope all your dfw plans are going nicely :)

Been awol for a couple of days because the car was stressing me out. After getting it fixed, it still sounded a bit rattly and when OH took it on the motorway is made a terrible knocking sound. When returned to the garage they said that they couldn't see anything wrong. My friend's brother (HGV mechanic) came to take a look and they hadn't screwed the heatshield back on properly so it was banging about!

In other news, I bought myself a little dustbuster type cordless handheld vacuum cleaner. Mostly for leaf, crumb and spider removal. It's a pain dragging out the big vacuum each time!

    So today's plan:

    • Working 3 hours overtime at double pay :)
    • Hovered up several spiders that OH missed yesterday while doing housework with new dustbuster (don't like the fact I can see the spiders in it though. Bleugh)
    • B/L/D from stores - going to see a friend today but we are taking a hm lasagne, she in turn will hopefully provide hm wine! Normally end up eating lacklustre pub meal, suspect this will be better (probably no worse!)
    • Wash on v.early before I go. Dry indoors by dehumidifier.
    • Charge phone in work - remembered to turn off background data again as it drinks my battery.
    • Checked online banking - all good. Earned about 20p interest on "pots" savings accounts.:rotfl:
    • Start thinking about c*****m*s presents :o
That'll do for now I think,

Have a good one all :)

Well I missed yesterday, was busy reading some debt free diaries and got lost in them, then suddenly it was wine o clock!

Was a non spend day yesterday and Im hoping for the same again today unless I go food shopping, though I may go tomorrow!

My little boy (he's actually a dog) is poorly today, so keeping a very close eye on him, he eats anything so bit worried he may have a blockage, not eaten breakfast either. Will be keeping an eye on his pooping!!

Oh C*******s, I have moved some money to the side as when we move we wont have as much disposable income so trying to be organised!!!

Will do a bank skim later I think, also will eat all meals at home and because its raining will enjoy netflix and lovefilm!!

    Happy Weekend everyone!

    Morning DFW-Jedis,

Thanks for the starter CarrieLovesFanta So I almost finished my Masterplan For World Domination and have fixed most of the things that were annoying me. :j

There's a couple of jobs I didn't do yesterday as I ran out of time to do and then I'm taking the day easy indoors, not least of all because it's pouring hard here. Here's my list:

    The List

    :D Check online banking. Done.

:D Buy a cheap t-shirt on eBay with the money I made on selling a book. Done.

    :D Do Nectar AdPoints. Done.

:D Do i-Say surveys. None available.

:D Sew up hand-made hot water bottle cover. I was making a hot water bottle cover, but then I looked at it and thought how lovely it would be as a wee handbag to put my wallet and phone in when I pop to the local shop. Just need to make a strap now. Wool was left over from another project and the button was in the reclaimed-from-old-clothes box:

:D Look for gas/electricity bill online. Got the bill. I was a only a pound out on my estimate. I've asked for a refund of the £150 credit in the account and to lower the Direct Debit as I think it is higher than it needs to be, even allowing for the forthcoming Winter.

:D Decide what I'm buying my spouse for our mini-Christmas. Started a wee list.

Well that's me for today. Good luck on your quests, Jedis.

    Afternoon Money Savers?
Have we all got our paws on our pence today? Not too bad here:
*Saved some gas by sharing a bath :-)
*Had a coffee in town but no cakes.
*Found some lovely fair trade birthday cards in our local Oxfam bookshop, reduced to 40p each. Bought 3 for card stash.
*Remembered to take cash from our 'Household Piggy' with us to buy the few domestic bits & bobs we needed, so have kept my budgets straight.
*Sorted through our allium crop, which didn't look huge, but managed to plait up a string of red onions & 2 strings of shallots for keeping, plus a basket of smaller ones to use now & a box of tiddlers to save for piccalilli.
*Make spicy tomato chutney as have picked more lovely ripe ones than we can use this week. Only needed to buy 2 red peppers for this as have everything else in stock.
*Picked up free summer mag from local Co-op. Some nice new recipes to cook & several vouchers for extra dividend.
*Finish sewing jumper up. This dropped off the list yesterday because I had half a bottle of wine, which generally impedes my ability to sew in a straight line!
    *Did a competition.
    *Watered veggie garden.
    *Updated budgets.
    Cheers all,
    F x

  • Hello all!

Today I paid the motorbike insurance settlement cheque into the bank. Have agreed with son that he can half (as motorbike was his but paid for by us) but if he wants to get another bike he'll need to pay the insurance.

This has given us an instant and very much needed boost to our emergency fund. Washing machine definitely not very happy - still works but the drum (sometimes) bangs against the side when its starting to spin. OH has done research and thinks it's the bearings which he can purchase for circa £60 and he's watched an online video on how to replace them. £60 seems a bit steep to me.....what if it's not the bearings.

Have checked bank accounts, agreed on a budget for this week (our staycation) and spent quite a bit of it on treats (beer, wine (I won't be doing much knitting this week ;)), crisps and so on).

Sat in the garden for a couple of hours reading my library book.

Walked the dog (second dog still limping a bit). Hope your pooch is feeling better CLF.

Made coleslaw from scratch to have with jacket spuds later..
Spoke to son1 (suddenly unemployed) about staying active and planning things to do each day - not just jobs but things he enjoys (not including computer games). Thank you for that PM tip.

Please STOP mentioning the C word. I usually do my shopping on the eve of that day! My only change this year is tha I plan to do it with the money set aside and not a Credit Card.

    Best wishes all x

    Morning DFW-Jedis,

As the weather's rotten we've decided to stay in today. Here's my list:

    The List

:starmod: Check online banking. Done. Fine.

:starmod: Do Nectar AdPoints. None available.

    :starmod: Do i-Say surveys. Done.

:starmod: Sew strap on hand-knitted bag. Done.

:starmod: Look into going back to Linux instead of Microsoft Windows.

:starmod: Encourage OH to back up laptop. That took forever. :)

    :starmod: Free home haircut. Done.

:starmod: OH gave me a mobile phone case no longer wanted. As we have the same model phone it fits perfectly.

:starmod: Liberate two folding chairs via Freecycle. Done.

:starmod: Re-watch DVDs from cupboard this afternoon. In progress.

:starmod: Apply for a government State Pension forecast summary. (Link) Done. The website is really temperamental. Don't attempt this without a glass of red wine in your hand.

Well that's me for today. Good luck on your quests, Jedis.

Just spent 3 hours going through all my email accounts and unsubscribing to retail/shopping emails (While its great to get 2 pairs of shoes for the price of 1 they are not a necessity...and i already have about 50 pairs too many anyway) all these unsubbed emails have also been added to an auto delete junk folder...so good bye temptation!

While not a big deal to some people I was always got caught by something frivolous that turned up in an email so naturally would buy it....BUT NOT ANYMORE!!!!! I am actually feeling quite proud of myself for it!
