Stumbled across your diary and will subscribe :)

I totality sympathise with the 'we work hard and earn well but are still up to our eyes in it' feeling - same here!! makes me feel:mad: at times as we are not extravagant - dont need latest gadgets or follow the latest trends or drive expensive cars - although we eat well, pay our bills, keep our children healthy and a roof over our heads and still we find ourselves in a similar debt! I think for years it was head in the sand stuff - employed and earning so we can pay this off at some time.............:(

I like your Rio 'self challenge' I do similar things now to motivate myself. So when I heard it was 100 days to the Scottish Vote I thought well I will pay an extra £1 a day to a CC for a 100 days..........so I have stuck to it and havent noticed it in the purse or the bank balance but hopefully when the Scots decide I will have paid off an extra £100 to the Debt :rotfl:

I have made the assumption that you have retrained as a teacher??? Well whatever it is good luck with the new job! You will find lots of help/ideas/support and fun ( oh yes hammering down your debts can be fun) on these threads. Have a look at some of the challenges too - some are scary:eek: but most are just a bit of fun. One thing is for sure the journey to Debt Freedom is a roller coaster one - there will be lots of highs and lows but hang on tight and you w;)ill get there - even with your eyes shut sometimes

Hi Igamogam - thanks for the post!

We definitely had our head in the sand to an extent but also we just sometimes didn't have the cash!!

We're quite simple in what we want too - mainly; a good house, good food and a holiday each year. Other things don't bother us too much tbh.

I really like your 100 days idea - i'm gonna do that the next time I hear it's 100 days until something (probably be Christmas :rotfl:)

    And you're clearly a bit of a detective - as you're quite right I'm a teacher now :eek::eek::eek:

Think it starts about 17th Sept???

Err.... it was the year training course and Sept start that gave it away:rotfl: Done it myself ;)

Try the 'payment a day' thread - fun supportive lot over there.

  • Okay I promised a further update about the week away so here goes.

For a week away I actually think we did very well

Petrol costs were £100 for travel there, back and around where we went. We booked a cottage but as my parents booked the location wasn't great and meant lots of car journeys of over 30mins. Not ideal but, didn't spoil the week. Just spent more on fuel than was ideal!

Also, keeping a 3 year old awake in the car after a busy day is a nightmare - thank goodness for Peppa Pig and Ben and Holly to keep her going :rotfl:

Our biggest day of the week was our trip to Alton Towers - we met my brother and his family too so it was a cracking day.

I'm actually really pleased with how little we spent on such a big day out:

Our two youngest kids were FREE
Me and OH had BOGOF entry thanks to Kellogs ;) £49
And daughter #1 was paid in by Grandma - FREE :T
Parking £6 (rip off!! but unavoidable)

The ONLY other cash I spent all day was £26 for me and daughter #1 to get fast pass tickets for 3 rides (2 x £13) and it was money very well spent in my opinion.

So a family day out to Alton Towers and I spent £81 all day! Not bad I think! We took all food and drinks that we needed and weren't tempted by the official photos etc.

I've just noticed that Match of the Day is about to start so will fill in more details tomorrow!
