Boundary and guttering problem

Our neighbour built an extension 7years ago. The wall of this extension has replaced the garden wall. He spoke to us at the time and stated that the original wall was wide ( about1 1/2) and as such could he build right up to the edge, effectively taking a few inches off our land. We weren't too pleased but verbally agreed in the interests of being neighbourly. Nothing was ever signed.
The roof edges overhang our garden by a further few inches with soffits guttering etc. During all this time the neighbour has never shown any interest in maintenance of the guttering.

The beginning if this year we changed all our guttering to black. We changed the guttering on our side of his extension, which overhangs our property. A black corner piece ( some 4-6in if that)? can be seen from his garden.

However he has to walk up a very narrow gulley between his house and shed to view this guttering. It's not a part of the garden he uses and by his own admission.

He has demanded that we change it back to White as that is what he wanted originally. He also stated that if we had asked he would gave said no anyway.

We have had a building inspector from the council ( we've been having work done) who was reluctant to pass judgement but agrees that his building is over the boundary line.

I have consulted the deeds. They state that no one in particular is responsible fe boundaries other than each party should make good- jointly and severally responsible.

Ant views would be welcome

    Life is too short.

    a) for him to bother about whether it's black or whire on the wrong side.

    B) for you to say it's yours on your side.

The Building Inspector has no authority in this sort of thing so it doesn't matter what he thinks. You may as well pull a stranger off the street.

A chat over a cup of tea or a glass of wine should fix this. Be nice. Guttering is dirt cheap - Silly cheap. Make the last 6 inches white.p
